Starks Camping with UCLA

May 27 -- The Encino (Calif.) Crespi fullback, Jalen Starks, will camp with UCLA in June...

Encino (Calif.) Crespi fullback Jalen Starks (6-1, 242) has seen an uptick in his recruitment during the evaluation period.

Starks is up to eight offers and more schools have been by to see him and would like him in camp.

San Jose State, Montana State, Idaho, Utah State, Iowa State, UNLV, Robert Morris and Oklahoma Baptist have all offered me,” said Starks.

In addition, a wide variety of schools have been by Crespi this spring.

UCLA, Arizona State, Colorado, Colorado State, Wyoming, Nevada and Stony Brook have all come by,” said Starks.

Starks is being recruited primarily as a big back, though some have mentioned linebacker or athlete.

“A lot of schools are looking at me as a back in general but some schools like me as a linebacker and some as an athlete,” said Starks. “Most of my offers are for running back or fullback though.”

UCLA is one school that has been watching Starks closely and he’ll camp there next month.

“I talk to UCLA on a regular basis and I have a lot of conversations with Angus McClure and Kennedy Polamalu,” said Starks. “They want to see how I do in their camp in front of their staff. They’re recruiting me as a big back. Coach Polamalu’s son played at Loyola so he saw me then and said I’m the kind of big back he likes. I see Coach McClure here a lot too.”

Starks visited UCLA for spring practice and was at the Rose Bowl for the Spring Showcase.

“I went to a UCLA practice and then the Spring Game and it was very fun,” said Starks. “I got to see them compete at the college level and see how they practiced, how they do it in that environment.”

Besides the UCLA camp, Starks said he’s possibly camping with Colorado and Arizona State at their satellite camps in the Southland.

“I feel like if I go to their camp and do really well, I could get offers from them,” said Starks.

Starks wants to take a couple of official visits before making a decision too.

“I’m still talking it over but I plan on taking a couple of visits because I’d kind of like to see a couple of schools,” said Starks. “I don’t really have a time frame, I’m still looking at a lot of schools. I want to just get a feel for most of the schools.”

Academically, Starks has a 3.5 and took the SAT earlier this month.
