UCLA Loses to Maryland

May 31 -- The Bruins now have to win three straight games to advance to the Super Regionals...

After a solid 7-2 win over Bakersfield on Friday to open the NCAA Regional, the Bruins struggled to put together anything offensively against Maryland Saturday night, losing to the Terrapins 4-1.

UCLA mustered only five hits in the contest, despite Maryland losing its starting pitcher after the second inning. The Terrapins' battery of receivers, led by Robert Galligan, kept the Bruins out of rhythm.

The Bruins now are in a very tough position in the Regional, having to win three straight games starting Sunday at 4 PM against Bakersfield. If the Bruins beat the Roadrunners, they'll then face Maryland in the second half of the double-header on Sunday, and if the Bruins come out of that with a win, they'll face the Terrapins once again Monday night to advance to the Super Regional.

With two victories already, Maryland requires just one more win to reach the Super Regional, so if the Terrapins win Sunday night against either Bakersfield or UCLA, the Regional will be over.

UCLA's game against Bakersfield will be shown on ESPN3/WatchESPN, and if the Bruins win, their matchup against Maryland at 8 PM will be televised on ESPNU.
