He’s up to six offers, but once the summer months hit, The Woodlands (Tex.) defensive back Antoine Winfield will be making his way to programs that haven't yet jumped on board in an effort to expand his options heading into his senior year.
“Over the summer, I plan to visit some out-of-state schools. There’s not really a reason other than I want to visit some other schools,” Winfield said.
On the schedule for the summer visits are Ohio State, UCLA and Michigan State. There have been some contact with a couple of the schools mentioned, but none have given much indication that an offer is near.
That’s not at all an issue for Winfield.
“With UCLA, I liked my first visit down there. I especially liked the facilities,” Winfield said. “I want to check it out again, but the coaches have not discussed an offer with me yet. Same with Ohio State. I want to visit, but the coaches have not talked about offering me either.”
On the visit front, one school that has offered is Missouri. But now that the offer has been extended, the Tiger coaches would like to see him on their campus. Winfield is considering that trip in addition to the other three mentioned.
Either way, Winfield is pleased about where things are at the moment. Northwestern, Lamar, Houston, Purdue and SMU round out the six total offers he currently has.
“I like where things are in recruiting. It feels great,” Winfield said. “I have been getting good feedback from coaches, and I have a feeling that I will be getting more offers soon.”
Last season, Winfield had 87 tackles, five forced fumbles and two interceptions.
