Orange (Calif.) Lutheran offensive lineman Logan Bathke (6-5, 260) thought he could be close to ending his recruitment.
Then came an offer from Oregon and now Bathke is pumping the brakes a bit on the urgency to make a decision.
“I actually talked to a lot of the players when I was in Arizona about when they committed and they all recommended not committing right away and going through the process a little more and get a real feel for the campuses, so I think I’m going to take it a little longer now,” said Bathke.
The three schools that Bathke visited, Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA, are also likely to get official visits from him as well as Oregon.
“I think I’m going to take four official visits, definitely to the Arizona schools and UCLA and Oregon too, and then I’ll leave the fifth one open for maybe a new school,” said Bathke.
Bathke raved about the three schools he visited, starting out at UCLA then going to Arizona before ending the weekend at Arizona State.
“UCLA was great and everything was so nice,” said Bathke. "The campus was awesome and the coaching staff was great. I met Coach (Jim) Mora but I spent most of my time with Coach (Kennedy) Polamalu. That was my first time ever going to UCLA and it exceeded my expectations and was beyond what I expected.”
On Saturday, Bathke visited Arizona.
“Arizona was nice, the college itself is over the top and everything is so geared for sports and really nice,” said Bathke. “Their coaching staff is all great as well. Coach (Jim) Michalzik is recruiting me there.”
Arizona State wrapped up the weekend.
“We drove up there and honestly, my hope was that it was going to be a short visit because I was tired and just wanted to get home but it turned out to be the best visit I’ve had so far," Bathke said. "Everything was awesome. Coach (Todd) Graham was one of the best people I’ve ever heard talk. They’re renovating everything there and it definitely blew my expectations.”
The next trip for Bathke will be to Oregon later this month.
“I’m going to Oregon sometime in June,” said Bathke. “After this week for football, we’re off for three weeks so I’m going to make a trip up there.”
The Ducks surprised Bathke when they offered.
“That one definitely came out of the blue,” said Bathke. “Coach (Steve) Greatwood had been by the campus real quick during the spring, but I had kind of been DMng with them. Then one night last week, my coach said to give them a call and they wanted to offer and they did.”
Bathke said he may also visit San Diego State during the summer, but isn’t certain when that visit will take place.
