Bruins assistant coach Demetrice Martin was at Imhotep during the evaluation period, and after consulting with the staff, an offer was extended.
“He watched me work out,” Valentin said. “We usually have our morning workout, and he came down and watched me work out. I think what drew the trigger was he saw how athletic I was. We were running around. Our big guys have a competition to see who can dunk the (basketball) and I think that is what triggered it.”
Valentin did not have a lot of contact with staff after Martin’s visit, and he said the offer “came out of nowhere.”
However, he already knew a bit about the school because he watched some of their games, and he was able to speak with offensive line coach Adrian Klemm after the offer.
“We actually talked a little bit after they offered me,” Valentin said. “I know they put a lot of dudes in the NFL and they are great educational-wise.”
The offer excited Valentin as his hot streak continued. Since he was a surprise invite to The Opening following a stellar showing at a camp in late April, his recruitment exploded.
“I think I may trim my list after The Opening, probably in early August,” Valentin said. “I still have a lot of schools that are really interested, and still have a lot of schools I want to take visits to.”
Valentin added a trip to UCLA would have to come via an official visit either during or after his senior season.
