Keyon Riley Talks UCLA Offer

Aug. 6 -- Anaheim (Calif.) Servite defensive back Keyon Riley picked up a local offer he had been waiting on and has a good idea on four schools he’ll officially visit...

Keyon Riley is one of the region’s top safety prospects and shows the versatility to play multiple spots in the secondary.

Some schools like him as a big corner but at 6-2, 190 pounds and still growing, we think safety is where he projects best. He had a strong 7v7 season during the spring showing a lot of range and athleticism for a big DB and above average cover skills as well.

On the recruiting front, Riley just landed an offer from UCLA on Tuesday, one he had been waiting on.

“I was really excited to get that offer,” Riley said. “I’ve been talking with Coach Martin for a while now, trying to build that relationship. He saw me at a camp at Muir H.S that his son was competing at and told me he liked my size and how I moved around.

“We talked this week for a good 30 minutes and he told me I had an offer. He actually likes me as a big corner but said if I keep getting bigger, I’ll move to safety but he likes my ability to move around and play different spots. I went to a lot of UCLA games last year and my boy Jack Savage is there now so I definitely have high interest in them.”

Riley said he may have also gotten an assist from a Servite teammate and a teammate from his 7v7 squad, Elite Athletes as well.

“I know Brandon Burton and Terrell Bynum have been talking to UCLA on my behalf,” Riley said. “They were pushing for me to get an offer so I’m thankful for their help here as well.

“I’m not close to making a decision though, I want to go through the process. I plan to take my official visits during the season and then probably be ready to commit sometime after our season is over.”

Riley said Washington, Wisconsin, Arizona and Colorado State are all on his short list.

“Washington was one of my dream schools growing up,” Riley said. “It was them and Notre Dame and I talk to Coach Lake a lot so I definitely plan to check them out. I like Wisconsin a lot too and that offer was big for me. I haven’t talked to them as much lately but I still have high interest and want to visit the campus.

“Arizona is close enough where I could do an unofficial visit but I think I’ll take an official there. It’s a good school and I like the staff a lot. Colorado State is kind of the sleeper on my list. They were my first offer and I always told them because of that, they would always stay on my list. They’re probably recruiting me harder than anyone, I talk to them weekly so I do want to go and check them out.”
