UCLA Making Brandon McCoy a Priority

Aug. 9 -- Brandon McCoy capped a successful summer on the AAU circuit at adidas Nations. The five-star 2017 prospect discusses the five schools recruiting him the hardest...

It was a successful summer for 7-foot, 235-pound San Diego center Brandon McCoy.

Scout's 23rd ranked prospect in 2017 and 9th rated center in the class, McCoy prides himself on his defense but feels his offense is coming along.

"My motive going into every game is to grab every rebound," McCoy said. "Defending, rebounding and blocking shots is what I try to do.

"My offense is getting better. I can hit the open jumper but I'm working on everything all the time and trying to get better every day."

McCoy has several offers, but there are five programs recruiting him the hardest.

"I have offers from Illinois, DePaul, Marquette, Louisville but the schools really calling me are Arizona, Kansas, UCLA, California and Michigan State," he said, before briefly breaking down what he likes about the programs working on him the hardest.

Arizona: "It's a good program; a winning program. The coaches are young so they understand us and know that we are going to make mistakes."

Kansas: "They're a winning program. Paul Pierce came out of there. They obviously know how to develop their players and help them become successful in life."

UCLA: "Winning program. They've had a lot of Hall of Famers and NBA greats to come out of there. Hopefully wherever I go I can be a Hall of Famer."

California: "Good program and they just got two number one players at their position in the nation. They're going to be really good next year."

Michigan State: "They're a great school and have had a lot of success in past years. Wherever I go I want to have success too."

The five-star prospect doesn't currently have any visits set up but the programs involved are working on changing that.

"Not that I know of; I might go to Arizona but it's not definite," McCoy said. "Arizona, Kansas, UCLA, Cal and Michigan State are all trying to get me to visit them."

There isn't any rush for McCoy to make a decision.

"I'm taking my time right now and just trying to get better every day," he said.
