Starting UCLA defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes is out for the year after tearing his ACL yesterday against Virginia yesterday, per a source.
Vanderdoes had a very good game to that point, looking very disruptive against the run and even contributing as a blocking fullback on offense.
It's a shame in many respects, but for Vanderdoes especially, since he had just gotten through his first completely healthy offseason at UCLA and was in the best shape of his UCLA career. He seemed poised for a huge year.
It's a blow to UCLA's front, but the Bruins have developed some solid depth on the defensive front. Luckily for UCLA, the Bruins get UNLV this week, which will give them a chance to iron out the kinks before playing BYU and then getting into the meat of the conference schedule.
