Junior linebacker Myles Jack is out for the season after injuring his knee yesterday in practice.
With Jack out, UCLA loses its most versatile defensive player. Jack actually had become the team's nickel back over the last couple of games, while starting games as a linebacker.
Expect Jayon Brown to fill in partially for Jack, but there isn't really a player on the roster who fills in completely for what Jack brings to the table.
UCLA has now lost three defensive starters to season-ending injuries -- DL Eddie Vanderdoes (ACL), Jack (knee), and CB Fabian Moreau (Lisfranc -- foot fracture).
This does probably make it more likely that all three players will return next season. Vanderdoes and Jack are both draft-eligible juniors, while Moreau was a true senior. All three, since they were hurt this early in the season, are eligible to use redshirt years this season.
We'll have more on this later.
