UCLA Prospect Preview: Week Five

Sept. 25 -- Check out where UCLA prospects will be playing this weekend throughout the country...

***Game of the Week:***  Gardena (Calif.) Serra vs. Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola

Despite some graduation losses, Serra is still pretty stacked and they're headlined by UCLA verbal Oluwole Betiku , still in only his second year of football this season. Besides Betiku, UCLA is after two-way athlete Brandon Burton too. The Cavs also feature USC commit C.J. Pollard and San Jose State commit Blake Walls at linebacker.  Their top youngster is 2018 four-star Merlin Robertson. Loyola boasts a pair of Pac-12 cornerbacks in Stanford commit David Long and UCLA target Myles Bryant opposite him.

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman vs. Anaheim (Calif.) Servite

Bishop Gorman is one of the premier teams in the country, and ranked No. 1 by Scout. They feature Texas A&M commit Tate Martell at quarterback, 2017 four-star receiver Tyjon Lindsey, four-star Arizona State cornerback commit Alex Perry, four-star defensive lineman Haskell Garrett, who is one of UCLA's top 2017 targets and safety Bubba Bolden.  Servite has a talented 2017 crop, led by UCLA receiver target Terrell Bynum.  2017 quarterback Tyler Lytle is replacing Oregon freshman Travis Waller and already has a few offers despite just a pair of starts.  Defensively, 2017 four-star cornerback Keith Taylor anchors Servite's secondary.  

Westlake (Calif.) vs. Compton (Calif.) Dominguez

The Warriors have one of the nation's top receivers in Theo Howard, who UCLA is heavily pursuing since his decommitment from Oregon, and they pursued him even while he was committed. In the backfield, Westlake has running back Chase Jasmin leading the way in their first season under a new coach since the 1980's.  

Orange (Calif.) Lutheran vs. Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta

OLu features Harvard-bound quarterback L.J. Northington and Oregon offensive line commit Logan Bathke, who UCLA offered, on offense and 2017 four-star safety Brandon McKinney, who UCLA offered last week.  Arizona State commit Kyle Williams runs the Vista Murrieta offense with safety Dwayne Johnson anchoring the secondary.

Gardena (Calif.) Serra vs. Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne

Long Beach (Calif.) Poly vs. Long Beach (Calif.) Wilson

The Jackrabbits are led by five-star athlete Jack Jones, who plays receiver and defensive back as well as 2017 linebacker Joshua Brown, Jayon's younger brother and 2018 safety Cameron McDonald, who UCLA offered two weeks ago.  Utah commit Davir Hamilton, who has a UCLA offer, plays both ways for the Jackrabbits.

Broomfield (Colo.) Legacy vs. Thornton (Colo.) Horizon

Legacy and UCLA quarterback commit Matt Lynch take on Horizon in a league game.

Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty vs. San Diego (Calif.) Cathedral

Krys Barnes, one of UCLA's earlier commits, looks to give Liberty their first win of the season when they face Clovis Buchanan.  Cathedral features Boise State linebacker commit Tyson Maeva and Hunter Allen, the son of former NFL corner Eric Allen, in the secondary.

Encino (Calif.) Crespi vs. Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany

2018 quarterback Hamish McClure, the son of UCLA defensive line coach Angus McClure gets more experience at quarterback, will have more pressure on him now that UCLA commit Jalen Starks is sidelined for a few weeks with a shoulder injury.  UCLA verbal and Crespi defensive end Marcus Moore, will lead the Celts defense.  Alemany features 2018 four-star quarterback Brevin White on offense.

Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco vs. Don Bosco Prep (N.J.)

Bosco has been fine without Josh Rosen, averaging 65 points a game through their first four games.  The Braves boast UCLA target Wyatt Davis, the five-star 2017 offensive lineman, as well as Washington running back commit Sean McGrew plus two top defensive backs in Traveon Beck and D.J. Morgan.  Don Bosco Prep has Maryland cornerback commit Tyrone Hill and Iowa defensive end commit Brandon Simon leading their defense.

Temecula (Calif.) Great Oak vs. Corona (Calif.)

Great Oak has a lot of talent in 2015, including UCLA commit Demetric Felton at running back, where he'll also line up in the slot and return kicks and punts to get the ball in his hands. Joining Felton is Arizona offensive line commit Bryson Cain and Navy commit Jake Schwarzer at linebacker. 

Rialto (Calif.) Carter vs. Redlands (Calif.) East Valley

Carter, with UCLA verbal Lokeni Toailoa and his brother Leni Toailoa, UCLA's newest commit, face their biggest test when they take on Redlands East Valley, the reigning CIF State Division II champions.

Portland (Ore.) David Douglas vs. Oregon City (Ore.)

UCLA commit Osa Odighizuwa and Douglas look to get their first win of the season against nearby Oregon City.  Oregon City has Oregon State receiver commit Trevon Bradford, tight end Sam Maughan and linebacker Kiahve Dennis-Lee

Los Angeles (Calif.) Windward vs. Lebec (Calif.) Frazier Mountain

2016 four-star commit Breland Brandt and Windward try to extend their winning streak to a modest three games.

Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West vs. Fresno (Calif.) Bullard

Clovis West and UCLA soft verbal Darian Owens as well as five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly take on Bullard in a non-league matchup.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Hawkins vs. Long Beach (Calif.) Rancho Dominguez

Hawkins has one of the best groups of young talent in the West, with 2017 five-star Joseph Lewis at receiver, four-star athlete Greg Johnson and four-star tight end Taariq Johnson as well as 2018 four-star Jalen Hall, all but Taariq Johnson holding UCLA offers and coached by former UCLA safety Milvon James.

West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade and UCLA commit Dymond Lee have the week off.  Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw and UCLA commit Marquis Lawson are off. Concord (Calif.) De La Salle and UCLA defensive line target Boss Tagaloa and tight end recruit Devin Asiasi have a bye.  Corona (Calif.) Centennial and UCLA receiver prospect Javon McKinley are off this week. Clovis (Calif.) Buchanan and defensive end target Bryson Young have a bye.
