Prospect Recap: Week Eight

Oct. 19 -- We look at how UCLA prospects did in week eight of the high school football season...

***Game of the Week:*** Temecula (Calif.) Great Oak def. Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral, 34-28

UCLA commit Demetric Felton had a night to remember, scoring the winning touchdown in overtime for the Wolfpack. It was the fifth time on the evening that Felton reached the end zone.  Felton carried the ball 30 times for 217 yards and his fifth touchdown clinched the crosstown victory for Great Oak.

Concord (Calif.) De La Salle def. Long Beach (Calif.) Poly, 52-6

One of the most anticipated games in California this year turned into a laugher, with De La Salle getting the usual upper hand on the Jackrabbits.  Three-star athlete Antoine Custer had 183 yards rushing and two touchdowns, UCLA tight end target Devin Asiasi caught a pair of touchdown passes and had three tackles and Bruin defensive tackle target Boss Tagaloa had two sacks in the rout.

Gardena (Calif.) Serra def. Encino (Calif.) Crespi, 33-7

With Crespi losing UCLA commit Jalen Starks to a dismissal before the game, the Celts had no chance to get their offense going against a stout Serra defense.  UCLA commit Oluwole Betiku had seven tackles, a sack, a tackle for loss and forced a fumble and UCLA target Brandon Burton had five tackles in the blowout.

Broomfield (Colo.) Legacy def. Fort Collins (Colo.) Fossil Ridge, 31-24

UCLA quarterback commit Matt Lynch was 13-for-26 for 159 yards and two touchdown passes and he ran for 75 yards on 17 carries and a score in Legacy’s Thursday night win.

La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat def. Mission Hills (Calif.) Alemany, 49-24

Bishop Amat and new UCLA commit Chris Gaston rolled past Alemany, getting a big night on the ground from Torreahno Sweet, who had three touchdowns.

West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade def. Sherman Oaks (Calif.) Notre Dame, 27-22

Chaminade quarterback/receiver Dymond Lee, a UCLA commit, threw for almost 200 yards and tossed a 30-yard touchdown and a 12-yard touchdown to help the Eagles rally in the 4th quarter for a win for the second straight win.

Rialto (Calif.) Carter def. San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon, 22-14

Carter, with UCLA verbal Lokeni Toailoa and his brother Leni Toailoa, one of UCLA's newest commit, won their second straight, with both brothers contributing.  Lokeni had six tackles, three of them for loss and broke up a pass while Leni had three tackles, one pass deflection and one tackle for loss and tacked on 36 yards receiving.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral def. Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian, 28-7

Cathedral got seven tackles, two for loss and a sack from UCLA 2017 commit Rhedi Short and the Phantoms topped Salesian and 2017 UCLA verbal Rahyme Johnson in a league contest.

Westlake (Calif.) def. Newbury Park (Calif.), 35-24

Westlake got just one reception from four-star Theo Howard, but he made it count, taking a short pass for an 85-yard touchdown.  Howard also added two tackles on defense.  San Diego State commit Chase Jasmin ran for 174 yards for the Warriors.

Kahuku (Hawaii) def. Kapolei (Hawaii), 56-10

UCLA commit Sean Auwae and Kapolei had their season come to an end in a loss to Kahuku, ending Auwae’s prep career.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Brentwood defeated Los Angeles (Calif.) Windward and UCLA verbal Breland Brandt, 41-7.  Clovis (Calif.) Buchanan beat Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West and UCLA commit Darian Owens, 28-14.  Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw and UCLA verbal Marquis Lawson trounced Los Angeles (Calif.) Manual Arts, 55-0. Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty and UCLA linebacker commit Krys Barnes beat Bakersfield (Calif.) Stockdale, 42-7. Hayward (Calif.) Moreau Catholic and long snapper commit Johnny Den Bleyker rolled Newark (Calif.) Memorial, 62-0.  Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue (QC) John Abbot College and UCLA kicker commit J.J. Molson topped Sherbrooke (QC), 30-16. Lafayette (La.) St. Thomas More and UCLA punter commit Bailey Raborn beat Lafayette (La.) Carencro, 28-13. 

Bye Week:

Nashville (Tenn.) Montgomery Bell Academy and UCLA tight end commit Jordan Wilson had a bye. Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola, with Stanford commit David Long and UCLA target Myles Bryant, as well as new 2017 running back offeree Drake Beasley, were off. San Diego (Calif.) Mira Mesa and receiver recruit Stefan McKnight had a bye.  Covington (Ga.) Newton and UCLA 2017 linebacker commit Jaquan Henderson was off.
