Saraland (Ala.) and Prichard (Ala.) Blount High had plenty to play for on Thursday night, though each would qualify for the Class 6A playoffs regardless of the outcome. Each 8-1 entering the game, a home playoff game was to be the reward in arguably the Yellowhammer State's toughest classification.
Stars shined, like USC commitment Velus Jones, New Mexico State hoops commitment turned wide receiver Reggie Todd and emerging 2017 athlete Kadarius Toney. Each turned heads with a wow play or two, but the youngest prospect expected to make an impact is currently the highest-rated in 2018 four-star Jack West.
The Saraland signal-caller wasn't able to come up with the victory in the 34-30 outcome, but his three scoring throws furthered the flashes the recruiting world has seen with him over the last year or so en route to double-digit offers including Alabama, Auburn, Ole Miss, Stanford, UCLA, Duke and others.
