Prospect Recap: Week Twelve

Nov. 17 -- We look at how UCLA prospects did in week twelve of the high school football season...

Aurora (Colo.) Regis Jesuit def. Broomfield (Colo.) Legacy, 34-7

The prep career of UCLA quarterback commit Matt Lynch came to an end in a loss to Regis Jesuit.  Lynch was stopped all night when Regis Jesuit needed to and picked off three times and kept out of the end zone.  Lynch finished 19-for-36 for 198 yards and a touchdown toss and he ran for 57 yards on 12 carries.

Gardena (Calif.) Serra def. Westlake (Calif.), 38-20

With Oluwole Betiku out with a shoulder injury likely to sideline him for the remainder of the season, Serra started slow, but eventually got into a groove and ended Westlake's season.  UCLA commit Theo Howard had 11 catches for 145 yards and a touchdown catch.  UCLA target Brandon Burton had three catches for 67 yards and three tackles on defense for the Cavs.

West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade vs. Corona (Calif.) Centennial def. West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade, 70-29

Centennial, the defending Pac-5 champs, jumped out to a 42-14 halftime lead and then rolled the rest of the way to end the season for UCLA commit Dymond Lee and Chaminade.  UCLA target Javon McKinley had three catches for 59 yards in the win.  Lee threw three interceptions in the loss.

Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian def. Long Beach (Calif.) Jordan, 56-8

Oaks scored eight first half touchdowns for a 56-0 lead at the half and a running clock with reserves did the rest in the second half.  UCLA 2018 quarterback target Matt Corral was 9-for-11 for 204 yards and five touchdown passes, Michael Pittman catching four passes for 125 yards and two scores.  Gil'Scott Jackson ran for 113 yards and two touchdowns in the win.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola def. Long Beach (Calif.) Wilson, 48-16

Loyola got a touchdown catch from David Long and 100+ yards from 2017 running back target Drake Beasley and a score in a blowout of Wilson in the first round.

La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat def. Norco (Calif.), 72-36

Bishop Amat got five tackles from UCLA commit Chris Gaston, 150 yards and four touchdowns from fast rising running back Torreahno Sweet and they doubled up Norco to move on to the second round.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Crenshaw def. Wilmington (Calif.) Banning, 54-27

Crenshaw and UCLA verbal Marquis Lawson rolled Banning in the first round of the City Section playoffs.  Lawson had a 27-yard touchdown reception and had two picks for the Cougars in their win.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Dorsey def. Carson (Calif.), 35-28

Dorsey and new UCLA offered jumbo athlete Nahje Flowers got past Carson in their City Section opener.

Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral def. La Crescenta (Calif.) Crescenta Valley, 58-19

Cathedral has safety Rhedi Short, one of UCLA's 2017 verbals, had six tackles and a pass breakup, 2017 defensive end Hunter Echols had five tackles, two for loss and a sack and the Phantoms cruised to a first round win.

Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West def. Bakersfield (Calif.) Frontier, 30-10

Clovis West and UCLA verbal Darian Owens moved past Frontier, with Owens catching an early touchdown pass, in their first round playoff game.

Las Flores (Calif.) Tesoro def. Temecula (Calif.) Great Oak, 49-3

Great Oak was without UCLA commit Demetric Felton, sidelined with a shoulder injury and Tesoro ended their season.

American River (Calif.) College def. Sacramento (Calif.) City College, 38-19

UCLA commit Nick Terry had four tackles, two quarterback hurries and a tackle for loss in their final regular season win.

Torrance (Calif.) North def. Agoura (Calif.) City College, 48-14

UCLA target Mique Juarez ran for 150 yards and five touchdowns, while throwing for 115 yards and a touchdown in North's first round playoff win.

Other Games:

Nashville (Tenn.) Montgomery Bell Academy and UCLA tight end commit Jordan Wilson beat Chattanooga (Tenn.) McCallie, 38-3, though Wilson was sidelined with a season-ending foot injury.  Hayward (Calif.) Moreau Catholic and long snapper commit Johnny Den Bleyker beat Hercules (Calif.), 48-14, in their playoff opener. Covington (Ga.) Newton and UCLA 2017 linebacker commit Jaquan Henderson topped Sharpsburg (Ga.) East Coweta, 38-17, in a playoff game. Fontana (Calif.) Summit and UCLA receiver prospect Damian Alloway rolled West Covina (Calif.) South Hills, 59-35 to open the CIF-SS playoffs.


Concord (Calif.) De La Salle and UCLA targets Devin Asiasi and Boss Tagaloa had a first round bye in the CIF-NCS D-I playoffs.  Bakersfield (Calif.) Liberty and UCLA commit Krys Barnes had a first round bye in the CIF-Central Section D-I playoffs.

Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue (QC) John Abbot College and UCLA kicker commit J.J. Molson have completed their season.  Rialto (Calif.) Carter and UCLA linebacker commit Lokeni Toailoa and safety commit Leni Toailoa have completed their season.  Los Angeles (Calif.) Windward and UCLA defensive end commit Breland Brandt have completed their season. Kapolei (Hawaii) and UCLA center commit Sean Auwae have completed their season.  Portland (Ore.) David Douglas and UCLA defensive line commit Osa Odighizuwa have completed their season. Encino (Calif.) Crespi and UCLA defensive end commit Marcus Moore and fullback commit Jalen Starks have completed their season.  Los Angeles (Calif.) Salesian and UCLA 2017 linebacker commit Rahyme Johnson have completed their season.
