On Corona (Calif.) Centennial WR Javon McKinley:
So the UCLA staff will be out at the St. John Bosco- Centennial game on Saturday and as a result, won't be able to conduct an in-home visits with any players this week from either team since you only get one contact. The following week, Javon will take his official visit to UCLA and the dead period starts on the 14th. So they're trying to figure out when they can conduct a home visit, not that its super necessary since they'll have him on campus all weekend next week but that's where things are at right now.
Honestly, I don't have a great feel for him right now. ND and Washington are on him hardest, I know family wants him close and he loved his visit to Oregon. I could honestly see him at any of those programs.
Even though his mom has a very strong personality, I don't get the sense she's going to bully him to going where she wants, it will be his decision. When he originally cut his list to five over the summer, she had no idea he was doing that and was surprised by a few of the schools who made the list. So even though she's involved, end of the day, it's going to be what Javon wants and who he likes best.
On Elk Grove (Calif.) Franking safety Lamar Jackson:
He said UCLA coaches will be coming by Thursday for a home visit. He also has Nebraska and Arizona are coming this week and USC next week. He'll announce at the UA AA Game.
On Torrance (Calif.) North LB Mique Juarez:
Juarez said UCLA will be by the school Monday and will follow up with a home visit another time, likely next week. He's visiting Oklahoma State this weekend and still plans to announce at the Army AA Game.
On his de-commitment from USC:
His de-commitment really didn't have much to do with USC. Sarkisian getting fired was just a convenient excuse for him to do it. He was soft on USC from the beginning and, even while he was committed, was set to announce at the Army AA Game. You don't do that unless you're planning to flip.
On Los Angeles (Calif.) Loyola DB David Long:
Long, a Stanford commit, said UCLA is really coming on strong right now and he's expecting to set up a home visit with UCLA this week. Right now, he has Notre Dame, Duke and Michigan coming in this week and he said it will likely be Coach Jim Mora for UCLA that visits him, so he's looking forward to that. I've said it before -- his commitment to Stanford is pretty soft right now, so he's more open than most people think.
On Stanford: They liked his speed at WR and honestly, most of his junior film was offense over defense. He has only played corner for a couple of years and really looked good this past spring and summer. Stanford turned around and said they would take him as a corner once they knew that's what he wanted to do, but there's a trust issue now and I don't think he's 100% sold they'll keep him at corner.
On Long Beach (Calif.) Poly ATH Jack Jones:
Jones said on Chad Helton being hired at USC: "I like Coach Helton a lot, it's a great hire. I'm very excited for him and the program and I think he's going to have USC playing like they should. I was already looking at SC but with Helton there, it makes them even more desirable for me."
Jones said he knows USC will be visiting him but is still working out the date. A&M, UCLA, ASU and few others are planning to visit as well.
On Gardena (Calif.) Serra safety Brandon Burton:
With the contact period starting Monday, coaches can begin home visits. UCLA was scheduled to visit Burton late Monday, and that's an indication of how they're prioritize Burton.
