Sione Heimuli-Lund - ATH - Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton - Committed to Stanford
It wasn't a huge surprise, but it was still a big get nonetheless, when Stanford landed a commitment over the weekend from Heimuli-Lund. The No. 4 ranked athlete out West in the 2017 class has been a longtime lean to the Cardinal, and with his close friend and teammate, Simi Fehoko committed to the Cardinal, they were in a good place. Heimuli-Lund visited with Fehoko, unofficially, for the Notre Dame game, and committed to David Shaw and his staff. The Cardinal pulled in Heimuli-Lund over offers from Arizona State, BYU, Cal, Colorado, Michigan, Utah, Vanderbilt, Washington and Washington State.
Jacob Eason - QB - Lake Stevens (Wash.)
While Eason's prep career came to a close last Saturday, he didn't go down without a fight, passing for almost 400 yards in taking Lake Stevens to the state semifinals. The West's No. 1 prospect went over 10,000 yards career passing during the playoff run and was named one of six finalists for the U.S. Army National Player of the Year. But it's his recruitment that has drawn the most attention. A commit to Georgia since the summer of 2014, Eason took an official visit to Florida this week after Georgia let Mark Richt go as head coach. He's scheduled to visit Georgia officially in the next week and Miami and Richt would love to make a push for him too. And both the in-state schools could be options if he ended up deciding to stay closer to home.
Hunter Echols - DE - Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral - 2017
Echols had 17 sacks this season for Cathedral and will make a jump into the Scout 300 for the 2017 class after a big junior year. San Jose State and Cal Poly were his early offers, but his junior film getting out opened the doors for the Pac-12 and on Wednesday, he landed a trio of Pac-12 offers. Utah offered first, then Washington State followed suit and UCLA ended the evening with an offer. This recruitment may not go on long either, with Echols saying that UCLA is his dream school and his lifelong favorite and he'll visit UCLA next week for an unofficial visit.
Addison Gumbs - OLB - Oakland (Calif.) Stellar Prep (2017)
Gumbs is a player that we've been watching for a couple of years and he's really beginning to emerge as a player to watch in the 2017 class. He was overshadowed at Stellar Prep by their 2015 class, but came in to his own this season, moving to linebacker from safety. He's been offered by Sacramento State, Troy, Oregon State and Utah State in the last week and will likely see more come in during the contact period.
Melquise Stovall - ATH - Lancaster (Calif.) Paraclete
Stovall was a one-time USC commit before opening up his recruitment late in the summer. Since then, the four-star has taken official visits to Arizona, Boise State, Notre Dame and Utah and will take one more official visit, but that destination still remains unclear, though it will be taken this month. Stovall said he will announce his final decision at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl next month.
National recruiting analyst Greg Biggins and Southwest regional analyst Jason Jewell contributed to the roundup.
