Jake Brendel talked Monday after practice.
On this being his last game at UCLA:
I really don’t think about it. If you think about it being your last one, you might do something differently. I try and approach every single game the same.
On what he’s shown for NFL scouts:
I’m pretty durable. I’ve taken a lot of reps here, a lot of starts. I’m trying to show my versatility, since I’ve played center my whole time, but hopefully in postseason games, I can play guard and show I can play inside. I’m playing in the East-West Shrine Game.
On what he’s most proud of:
My goal here was to set up the offensive line for as much success as they could be. I would like to leave here with at least one maybe two taking that role.
On who takes that role:
It depends on who stays. It could be anyone. We’ll see after the bowl.
On Josh Rosen bouncing back from USC:
It wasn’t his best game, you want to see guys bounce back from that, and he has. He has all those characteristics of a great player.
On Ka’imi Fairbairn:
He’s the man, everyone loves him. He’s not just a kicker, he’s a part of the team. Everyone respects him. He’s the greatest kicker in college football. Its sad he didn’t get the Pac-12 accolades, but you can’t win them all.
On the offensive line:
Really we just have to be efficient and get the job done with what we have. Every day it changes. Looking at the past couple practices, we’ve done a really good job.
On Fred Ulu-Perry:
I tried to be as close as possible, but I feel he was a little homesick. If you;re not happy at a place, you should leave the first year. If he’s happy at Hawaii, I wish him the best.
On being motivated for a 5-7 team:
Playing Nebraska and what they stand for, that pushes up and I don’t feel we’ll be flat coming in.
On how much of Nebraska they’ve watched:
A little bit, but we’re still self-scouting. We’re still 2-3 weeks out. They’re a good team. They look on field like not a 5-7 team. Its not like their record will dictate how we’ll play.
