Nebraska and USC on Top for Scout 300 DB Lamar Jackson

Dec. 30 -- Franklin (Calif.) Elk Grove defensive back Lamar Jackson was originally set to announce his commitment at the Under Armour AA Game but has decided to push his announcement date back a few weeks.

Lamar Jackson is one of the top safety prospects out West and brings a lot of positional versatility to the table.

Jackson is a big, physical safety who runs well and loves to hit. He has the frame to bulk up and move down to linebacker but is athletic to stay at safety. He actually plays a lot of corner for El Grove and is more athlete than given credit for.

On the recruiting front, Jackson was originally planning to announce this week at the UA Game but he'll now move his decision back.

"I'm going to do it with bleacher report a week before Signing Day," Jackson said. "My final five are NebraskaOregon,  USC, Arizona State and UCLA. I was trying to visit Oregon a few weeks ago but there was a snow storm so I wasn't able t make it out there but I'm going to visit when the dead period is over."

There has been rumors that Nebraska and USC are leading for Jackson.

"Yeh, that's pretty accurate," Jackson said. "I had a great visit to Nebraska and liked it there a lot. With USC, Coach Helton and Coach Sirmon have taken over my recruitment and I have a good relationship with those guys.

"I still haven't made a final decision so it works out to move my decision back. It allows me to go visit Oregon and think things over a little more. It's a big decision for sure and I'm not trying to rush anything."
