Pac-12, SEC, Big Ten, ACC, Big 12 race for players in Scout 300

Jan. 16 -- The final Scout 300 is released, and nearly one-third of the prospects remain uncommitted....

The final Scout 300 is out, and one thing is for certain -- the opportunity for seismic shifts in the team recruiting rankings exists.

While SEC commitments dominate the Scout 300, so do uncommitted prospects (or those with soft verbals). There are 85 players who fit that category.

Meanwhile, LSU leads the way with 12 commitments in the Scout 300, but the Tigers are followed closely by Michigan and Ohio State, which each have 11 in the group. Notre Dame has 10 commitments, followed by national champion AlabamaGeorgia and Mississippi.

The leaders in the ACC are Clemson and Florida State. The Pac-12 is led by Stanford.

The Scout 2016 Five-Star Prospects

Final Scout 100

East

Brian Dohn says: "There was not much movement in the East since the region was updated at the conclusion of the season in mid-December, but the new additio to the Scout 300 came after a stellar showing at the Semper Fidelis All-American Bowl.

Khaleke Hudson, who is being recruited as an athlete, is looking at UCLAMichiganPenn State and Pittsburgh. He plays safety and running back, and schools are looking at him for both spots. As a safety, he plays down hill, reads plays well and is physical. As a running back, he hits the hole hard and has good vision. He is No. 273 in the Scout 300."

South

Chad Simmons says: "There are three new prospects who added a fourth star to close out this cycle ,and each are on the defensive side of the ball.

Starting with the one who made the biggest jump — Notre Dame commitment Troy Pride Jr., a cornerback out of South Carolina.  He has the size and length you love to see in a cover guy and he will be good for the Irish.

"Another guy who can cover and shined on the All-American bowl scene was Tyler Byrd, and he made a move as well. The new four-star out of Florida will play for Miami.  He is all about speed.

"Mississippi State is getting a big athlete who made plays on both sides of the ball in high school in Marquiss Spencer. He was a 2017 four-star before being re-classified to 2016. His potential is high at his size, and he breaks into the Scout 300 at No. 284.

"The strongest position out of the South in the Scout 300 is on the defensive line.  Between the defensive ends and the defensive tackles, there are 28 defensive linemen in the Scout 300.  At tackle, there is 15, and at end, there are 13.  Out of those, 17 are already committed to a school in the SEC."

Midwest

Allen Trieu says: "Iowa commit Cedrick Lattimore snuck in at the end of the Scout 300. He's been a four-star for a while now, but his continued development as a senior allowed him to leap over a few other players into that spot."

Midlands

Greg Powers says: "Houston Miller, a 6-foot-3, 240-pound defensive end from Keller (Texas) is making his debut in the Scout 300 list and deservedly so after a strong senior year. He recorded 119 tackles, 16 tackles for loss, nine sacks, four forced fumbles, 15 quarterback hurries, and one kick block in 10 games. He is also a physical freak off of the field, running a 4.67 laser-timed 40-yard dash at the Nike Camp in the spring. His highlight reel is one that is a whole lot of fun to watch. Miller is committed to Texas Tech and could be an immediate difference maker there.

"Also, new to the Scout 300 is Katy (Texas) running back Kyle Porter. Porter rushed for close to 2,000 yards and 36 scores to help his team to an undefeated record, a state title, and a top-ranked billing in for Texas High School Football in the Scout HSFB Top 50. Porter has grown into a top-billed player in the Katy program after playing behind fellow Scout 300 alum Rodney Anderson (Oklahoma). Poter is still undecided on his college, but Texas is thought to be in the drivers seat.

"Another Texas lean, Eric Cuffee is back in the Scout 300, moving in after a strong performance at the Under Armour All-American game.  The Waco (Texas) standout has great versatility at 6-0, 190 pounds. He could play safety or corner on the next level."

West

Greg Biggins says: "Chandler (Ariz.) wide out N'Keal Harry made a nice move in the Scout 300, jumping from No. 159 nationally to No. 117. The Arizona State commit had a dominant week of practices at the Under Armour All-American game and several onlookers felt he was the best receiver in attendance. At 6-3, Harry has a strong, athletic frame, the speed to run by opposing corners and tremendous body control. It will be surprising if he's not on the field early and often in Tempe next season.

"The biggest mover in the 300 was Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton's Simi Fehoko. The Stanford commit moved from No. 230 nationally up to No. 123. Fehoko put up video game numbers this past season, breaking state records for career touchdowns and yards. He showed during the Army All-American practices he could compete with anyone, flashing dynamic speed, soft hands and the ability to run after the catch.

"The one player rejoining the Scout 300 was a player who was recently bumped out. Chandler (Ariz.) athlete Chase Lucas was hurt and missed half of his senior season. You never want to punish a player for not playing but with Lucas, we were not sure exactly what position he fit best, and how his overall athletic ability translated to college. He more than proved himself all week during the Army practices and was one of the best corners in the event. The Arizona State commit is now back in the 300 at No. 292."
