Despite delaying the announcement once in early January, Brandon Burton made good on his intention to commit to UCLA Tuesday night, making the announcement via Bleacher Report just prior to an official announcement on national television hours before the start of National Signing Day.
"UCLA has always been consistently after me since my freshman year," Burton said. "I have a great relationship with Coach Mora, Coach Martin, and Coach Yarber, and I knew that was the place for me."
Burton is a versatile prospect with the ability to make an impact at either safety or wide receiver. We've heard he's going to come in with an emphasis, at least to start out, at safety, but he'll also get opportunities on special teams and on the other side of the ball as well.
He's the No. 126 overall prospect in the class of 2016, and also the No. 13 athlete. As Greg Biggins has written, he had a really solid senior year that helped to solidify his position in the top 150 prospects in the country.
UCLA is poised to have a big Signing Day tomorrow, with many top prospects announcing their commitments, including Boss Tagaloa, Devin Asiasi, Mique Juarez and more. With Burton now in the fold, and those prospects still considering UCLA, the Bruins could finish with a very good class.
We'll have more on Burton's commitment over the coming days.
