Hunter Echols, the 6-4, 220-pound defensive end from Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral, did what everyone was expecting Thursday -- he committed to UCLA.
"UCLA is my dream school," Echols told Scout.com's Greg Biggins. "It's where I always wanted to go since I was little.
Echols, the #17-ranked DE in the country, had offers from most of the Pac-12, but was a life-long Bruin fan.
"I love the staff," Echols said. "Great coaches, great academics, and it's close to home."
Staying local was key for the prospect, who actually wanted to commit a few months ago but was told to hold off.
"I want to live in Los Angeles after I'm done playing football," Echols said. "So a degree from UCLA is big for me with the contacts out here."
Echols is still planning on taking visits, but he wanted to commit early so he can start recruiting.
He thinks that UCLA's class will be one of the best the school has had.
