Focus 2017: UCLA Safety Recruiting Watch

Feb. 15 -- We take an early look at the top targets at safety for UCLA's 2017 class and some other names to know...

Getting a big, physical safety is definitely one of the ten most important recruiting needs for UCLA this year.

UCLA has a commitment from Rhedi Short already and he's one of the more underappreciated prospects on UCLA's recruiting board.

The Bruins are on the short list for Brandon McKinney, one of the Southland's best, and he camped with UCLA last summer to get himself on the radar, which netted an offer during the fall.

Chaz Ah You has been a longtime fan of UCLA but his recruitment has blown up in the last few months. His uncle was hired at Vanderbilt and is in the mix for a potential assistant job at Oklahoma, where he played, so that could make it tougher to get Ah You.

Josh Talbott comes from Long Beach Poly and likes UCLA, having attended a couple of UCLA games last season.

K.J. Jarrell has a slew of Pac-12 offers, but has the in-state schools after him as well as Washington, where his teammate, Byron Murphy, signed this month.

Jaylen Kelly-Powell and Maleik Gray are national prospects who have the conference schools nearby all over them.

From the next tier, Nick Pickett has one teammate committed in Rahyme Johnson, and his other teammates, Deommodore Lenoir, may be a Bruin lean. Isaiah Pola-Mao is a nephew of Kennedy Polamalu, so there's that connection.
