Brigham Harwell Makes Decision

It took a little longer than most expected but talented defensive lineman Brigham Harwell, a 6-1, 250-pound rush end from Hacienda Hts. (Calif.) Los Altos, has committed to...

"I'm going to UCLA," Brigham Harwell said. "I went down to the campus this morning and met with the coaches finally. "I was supposed to do that a couple of other times but wasn't able to make it down there. I had a great time, it was like an official visit. They had a jersey with my name and number on it, showed me the whole campus and the new upgrades they're doing to the weight room.

"First I met with Coach Dorrell and he's a great guy. We talked in his office for about 30 minutes. When he talks to you, he has such a presence about him and you have to respect him. I then met with the academic advisers and got to spend a lot of time with their DL coach, Don Johnson and that was great. I already knew Coach Bieniemy well since he's the one recruiting me but I always said it was important for me to have good relationship with my position coach since that's who you spend most of your time with.

"Coach Johnson was awesome and I can't wait to play for him. We really hit it off and that basically sealed the deal for me. I just felt comfortable there and I like the direction the program is going. I don't have any regrets about committing early because I've known for awhile now that UCLA was where I wanted to be. I'm just really excited about my decision."

Harwell is one of the nation's premier pass rushers and is a two time All-State Underclass selection. He had 25 sacks as a junior after totaling 22 as a sophomore. The entire Pac 10 minus Stanford had offered along with Oklahoma, Colorado, Nebraska and Kansas State. Arizona State proved to be the runner up for Harwell.
