Four-star defensive end Jaelan Phillips is ready to come off the board.
The highly coveted prospect from Redlands (Calif.) East Valley announced via Twitter that he intends to make his college commitment Thursday at noon, with the finalists consisting of UCLA, Stanford, Notre Dame, USC and Washington.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pound Phillips most recently visited the Bruins, spending last weekend on campus along with commit Hunter Echols, who has been pushing for Phillips to join him in the recruiting class. They attended Saturday's practice together and were also on campus the previous weekend with commit Kanan Ray, who told Bruin Report Online that Phillips was his No. 1 recruiting priority.
Before that, Phillips visited Stanford for the second time this spring and said the Cardinal made another great impression. It's thought that it's a close battle between UCLA and Stanford for the pledge, although the timing of this decision could mean good news for the Bruins. Phillips has various family members, including his father, who graduated from UCLA.
