It's a strong year for tight end talent out West and Jimmy Jaggers is a big reason for that.
He first caught our eye on the 7v7 circuit last spring and really impressed us with his size, hands, route running and ability to make plays down the field. His recruitment would soon take off and he was landing national offers from all over the country heading in to his junior year.
Jaggers hasn't slowed down since and is still landing new offers by the week. This past weekend, he visited the Washington Huskies, a school that has been high on his list for some time.
"This was my third visit to Washington and it's always a great time," Jaggers said. "The best part of this visit was getting to know the guys on the team better and being able to hang out with them. After practice we went bowling and I also got to sit in on some tight end meetings with them so that was great.
"I've already been all over the campus and seen the facilities and it's a very impressive place. I spent some quality time with Coach Paopao (TE coach) and he's a great guy and a great coach. We've had a great relationship since he started recruiting me over a year ago and obviously Coach Petersen is great as well. He's a real genuine guy and would be a great coach to play for."
Jaggers said the offense is another big play for the Huskies.
"I like the scheme a lot," Jaggers said. "They would use me as a traditional tight end but also allow me to stretch the field in the passing game and be a threat there as well. Washington is a school that has always been high on my list and they'll continue to be up there throughout my recruitment."
"That was my third time visiting USC as well and I liked it there a lot," Jaggers said. "They're pretty sure on tight ends, they only have three on the roster and they're all the h-back type. They want to bring in a guy with a bigger body so that's definitely a plus.
"Same thing with UCLA, they need tight ends badly as well. Their switch to a more pro-style offense is big. I don't see myself as a great fit in a spread type offense so both of those schools fit me pretty well from a scheme point. UCLA has been on me for a while now and I have a good relationship with that staff.
"This will be my last visit for awhile and then hopefully I can get my parents to come visit USC and UCLA again with me in May. Then in June, I'll decide which schools in the Midwest and East Coast to visit. I would like to see LSU and Florida and we'll see what else pops up."
Jaggers will likely make his decision sometime in the summer before his senior year.
