4-star DE D.J. Johnson Planning To Visit UCLA in Summer

May 19 -- Sacramento (Calif.) Burbank defensive end D.J. Johnson has over 50 offers, but UCLA was his first and he plans to get back down to campus this summer...

Sacramento (Calif.) Burbank defensive end D.J. Johnson got his first offer almost a year ago, from UCLA at the Bruins' Big Man Camp.

Now with 50 offers to his name, Johnson plans to get back down to Los Angeles to visit UCLA again this summer.

He talked to Scout about how much his recruitment took off, his camp performance that netted him the Bruin offer and more.

Did you ever expect your recruitment to blow up like it did?

Johnson- A little bit. I just stayed here in this program, they kept me humbled, kept working and I knew if I worked, eventually stuff would start coming.  It felt great to get it, but I knew it was going to come eventually.

On getting his first offer from UCLA:

It was a great offer because I went up there and got MVP from the camp.  After getting the offer, it felt like your way paid off a little bit.

On visiting UCLA and USC this summer:

Im trying to see where I can visit, but in the summertime, I’m trying to get down there.

On who is recruiting him at USC:

Coach Kenechi Udeze.  And I talked to Clay Helton a couple days ago.

On who is recruiting him at UCLA:

Coach McClure.

On getting an offer from Alabama:

It was a great offer. That’s a program always at the top and when they feel lke they need me on that team, it made me feel good about who you are and gave me more confience.

On other big national offers that stood out:

Ole Miss, Florida, Oklahoma, all spread out around the whole United States. My name is everywhere in football so that makes you feel good too.

On schools who haven’t offered that could soon:

I’ve been communicating with Clemson, Florida State, Ohio State, those are some of the top programs that offers would be good from.

On other Pac-12 schools coming after him:

Washington, Arizona, Washington State, Utah, some schools coming hard.

On Washington State having some success with Burbank players:

They’ve built that up and it’s a tteam that’s growing and winning more games. They won their bowl game and I like to see teams getting better.

On Arizona coming on:

They have some great coaches, right now they have the number one recruiting class in the Pac-12, a great atmosphere and a lot going on.

On Washington recruiting him:

I talk to Coach Petersen, Coach Gregory, the D-Line coach, the defensve coordinator. Sometimes we talk about football, sometimes we talk about life.

On where he’s visited:

I’ve been to UCLA, at Cal, there was a photo shoot, and been there a couple times.

On unofficial visits:

I’m scheduled to go to Alabama on June 17th, then some satellite camps I’ll go visit and I think I’ll go to Arizona too end of July.

On his time frame for a decision:

At the UnderArmour game more than likely.

On if he’ll take all five visits:

96 Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE

Yeah.  I’ll work my way down to the five I want to visit.
