Nation's #9 Corner Open to UCLA

June 11 -- Detroit King's Ambry Thomas, the nation's No. 9 cornerback and No. 1 in the Midwest, is rumored to be leaning towards staying in-state, but as he says here, he is open to schools on the West Coast and hopes to visit some school out there soon...

The buzz surrounding Detroit King cornerback Ambry Thomas at Sound Mind, Sound Body was mostly about in-state schools Michigan and Michigan State, with, depending on who you talk to, either the Wolverines or the Spartans having the upper hand.

However, the Oregon Ducks extended an offer to him after see Thomas, who was one of the top prospects, if not the top prospect in attendance, run, cover and play some wideout at the camp.

"I like them a lot," he said. "I've been talking to them a lot and it's a good one who finally pulled the trigger, I'll try to get out there for an official."

Another Pac-12 program UCLA, has been recruiting Thomas and his cousin, Cass Tech four-star safety Jaylen Kelly-Powell, vigorously and that is another school he hopes to see.

"[Defensive backs cach Demetrice Martin] was supposed to be coming here, but he couldn't make it," Thomas says. "I want to get out there soon too."

Martin has ties back to Michigan that Thomas is well aware of.

"We've talked about his background. He's from here and played for Michigan State. He says if you want to play in the league and get a whole bunch of interceptions, come to UCLA."

Thomas attends The Opening Finals in Oregon next month.
