"I had been talking to Coach (Scott) White for a while and Coach Marques (Tuiasosopo), and they were interested but they hadn't offered," said Ahmed. "After I got invited to The Opening Finals, I started talking more with Coach (Demetrice) Martin and we built the relationship and he offered."
Ahmed had visited UCLA last summer and camped with the Bruins, working as a defensive back, and that's what UCLA offered him to play.
"Coach Martin said he wants me as a corner," said Ahmed. "Coach Marques said he wants me on offense though, so they haven't really specified."
Only Colorado from the Pac-12 hasn't offered Ahmed and with some national offers, a list trim will be coming next month.
"In the next couple weeks, probably at The Opening, I'll get my top five and I'll take my officials early in the fall season," said Ahmed. "I hope to be committed by the end of September. I have a couple schools in my head that I know will be in my top five and I've talked to those schools and know what direction they're heading."
Last month, before The Opening Oakland, Ahmed visited Stanford.
"It was good," said Ahmed. I finally got to meet Coach (David) Shaw for the first time. I've had the Stanford offer for a while, but we'd only talked lately through social media, so getting to meet him in person was great. I talked mostly with Coach (Lance) Taylor and they like me as a running back. I also got to meet Christian McCaffrey which was pretty cool."
Prior to visiting Stanford, Ahmed visited Oregon for their spring game.
"I love getting down there and hanging out and it was great getting over there for the spring game and it was good for my family," said Ahmed. "I talked with Coach (Matt) Lubick and Coach (Mark) Helfrich and Coach (Gary) Campbell actually came by my school after."
Washington was the first school to offer Ahmed and he's made several trips to Montlake to spend time there.
"Coach (Jimmy) Lake wants me on defense really bad but Coach (Keith) Bhonapha wants me on offense," said Ahmed. "And most of the time, I talk to Coach (Chris) Petersen," said Ahmed. "I know when a head coach hits you up, you know how much they want you."
He also has two teammates on his FSP Blue Chip 7v7 team recruiting him hard to stay home.
"Connor (Wedington) and Hunter (Bryant) joke around all the time with me that I need to commit right now to Washington, so they're definitely on me," said Ahmed.
Ahmed will go to The Opening Finals as a defensive back and his recruitment is a split between running back and defensive back.
"I've been playing football since I was six and I have love for DB but I love running back too," said Ahmed. "I don't have a preference, in all honesty, the coaches fight over each side, so it will be whatever side I get my first opportunity. I'm willing to do both."
Ahmed will join FSP at the IMG National 7v7 Tournament later this month in Bradenton, Florida and will be at The Opening Finals next month, but those are the only two camps or events he'll do outside of Juanita.
