UCLA Baseball Adds New Commit Holden Powell

Jun. 23 -- UCLA Baseball failed to make the NCAA Tournament this season, but the program's recruiting has hardly slowed down...

Chalk up another top baseball commitment for UCLA head coach John Savage.

After turning down advances from Texas earlier this month, Savage on Wednesday picked up a verbal commitment from Holden Powell, another highly regarded prep pitcher out of Visalia (Calif.) Mt. Whitney, giving the Bruins their sixth arm in the 2017 class.

Powell went 9-2 with a 0.42 earned-run average in 12 appearances as a junior this past spring, striking out 81 batters in 66 2/3 innings. The 6-foot, 175-pound right-hander joins Hagen Danner (Huntington Beach, Calif.), Jeremiah Estrada (Indio, Calif.), Zachary Pettway (Long Beach, Calif.), Sam Glick (Lake Forest, Calif.) and Chris Daniels (Rescue, Calif.) in UCLA's class.
