Marlon Tuipulotu Talks Washington Commitment and Potential Future Visits

July 11 -- Independence (Ore.) Central defensive lineman Marlon Tuipulotu had a productive week at The Opening and earned a berth in the 'Final Five' best on best competition Sunday. He talked about potential visits, and maybe one to UCLA...

Evaluation Notes:

Marlon Tuipulotu is a nice looking lineman and was one of the more athletic defensive tackles in this year group at The Opening. He wasn't as big as some of the other interior linemen but relied on his quickness, change of direction and hands. He'll get bigger and stronger in college and combined with his natural athleticism, has a very nice upside to him.

Greg Biggins:

Alright, we’re here at Day 2 for you, Marlon, a Washington commit. Marlon, if you can, talk to me about the first couple days you been out here. What has the whole experience been like for you?

 Marlon Tuipulotu:

Man, it’s been amazing. We have great coaches that teach us good technique. Me and the new players… and these guys are really good, so it helps me get ready for the next level so I’m just thankful to be here.

Greg Biggins:

What’s gonna happen in the highlight for you? Is it gonna be the competition or the coaching again or the whole Nike experience, like getting geared up and all that? Or is it kind of all of the above?

 Marlon Tuipulotu:

Yeah, it’s all of the above. I mean, it’s been a dream of mine since I was younger just watching these guys on TV before, and I’m just glad to be here—blessed—so I’m really thankful.

Greg Biggins:

Okay, let’s switch it up a little bit. So you committed to Washington. If you can, take me back. What were the main reasons—you know, two or three reasons—why you chose the Huskies when you did? Why, and also the timing of it? Kind of getting it done so early?

 Marlon Tuipulotu:

I just love the coaches, love the players. Those guys are just real with me. Like, they didn’t try to sell anything. I was just happy every time I went there. It was very good. It just got better and better. So yeah, I just pulled the plug.

Greg Biggins:

Yeah, there’s been some talk about you… I don’t know if you’ve heard, kind of, the scuttlebutt. But you might still take some official trips. What’s your thoughts on that? Is that a possibility?

 Marlon Tuipulotu:

Um, I’m not too sure right now. Just trying to focus on The Opening, but we’ll see after this is over.

Greg Biggins:

Well, let me ask you this questions. What schools, obviously other than UW, are still talking you and still recruiting you pretty actively right now?

Marlon Tuipulotu:

Oregon, UCLA, Michigan, Ole Miss, Cal. Schools like that, yeah. Utah.

Greg Biggins:

You know in the past, Washington’s always had a policy—they don’t really care very much for their committed guys taking visits. Have you talked to them at all about the possibility of taking trips?

Marlon Tuipulotu:

No, not yet. Like I said before, I’m just trying to focus on this. Trying to do my best out here.
