Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral defensive end Hunter Echols is one of the best pass-rushers in Southern California.
He's quick off the ball, especially his first step, and has a variety of moves that he can use to get back his blocker.
He will need to add weight, though and some strength to compete in the Pac-12. At The Opening, he struggled with the stronger, athletic tackles who were quick enough to get to him and then had the necessary strength to keep him at bay. But slower tackles struggled against Echols because of how quick he was.
So it's a matter of added strength for Echols, because the quickness and athleticism is there, he just needs upper level strength so he can consistently get off his blocks.
Echols committed to UCLA the day after Signing Day and remains committed to the Bruins. He has talked about taking all five official visits but said at The Opening that Notre Dame may in fact be the lone official visit he takes.
