Following months of speculation and expressing public interest in several other programs, Hunter Echols finally backed off his commitment to UCLA on Friday.

The four-star defensive end from Los Angeles (Calif.) Cathedral committed to the Bruins the day after National Signing Day. Yet, in one of the odder recruiting moves to date, released a top 10 shortly thereafter. Echols, the No. 13-rated defensive end in the Scout 300, visited ArizonaMichiganNotre Dame and Washington, among others, in the spring.

Echols became the fifth recruit to decommit from the Bruins in the 2017 class, joining Rahyme JohnsonJaquan HendersonRhedi Short and Will Farrar.
