Evaluation NotesTrevon Duval is one of the top prospects nationally in 2017. He's got good size with very long arms, while he's an outstanding athlete, ball handler and passer. He can make some extremely difficult shots, while he's a good finisher around the basket. Duval has a good combination of very high floor and elite ceiling.

Josh Gershon:

Josh Gershon from Scout.com. here with ’17 point guard, Trevon Duval. Trevon, talk about your July. Your last time on the AAU circuit, how do you feel you played?

Trevon Duval:

I think I finished pretty strong. I ended my summer pretty much with a championship from the Under Armor circuit. Then my team went out to Vegas, Fab 48, ended up going undefeated. Again, I think I finished out the summer pretty strong.

Josh Gershon:

Any part of your game that you’re especially happy with right now?

Trevon Duval:

I think my size has developed a lot, you know, since I was a freshman in high school and I’ve just kept working on it, but so far, I’ve been doing really good at improving it.

Josh Gershon:

You think that’s the main area of your game you need to get better at?

Trevon Duval:

That, and you know, just handling the ball. Like limiting my turnovers and keeping my turnover-to-assist ratio pretty good.

Josh Gershon:

Obviously your recruiting seems to be wide open, but what head coaches seem to be following you around the most during July?

Trevon Duval:

I think Arizona followed me a lot. Maryland followed me a lot. Kansas followed me a lot… Oregon. UCLA…UCLA a little bit. I think that’s it.

Josh Gershon:

There seems to be some buzz about UCLA picking things up with you. Where do they stand?

Trevon Duval:

You know, they’re picking it up. Their coach is starting to contact me more and talk to me and keep in touch. They’re pretty much around where everyone else is until, you know, I decide to start shaving my list down.

Josh Gershon:

What do you like about that program?

Trevon Duval:

UCLA? Well, you know they get up and down. They’re a West Coast school, so they play up and down. Play fast, play my tempo. My style of play. So that’s really it.

Josh Gershon:

Let’s go through some of the other schools involved. What about Maryland? What do you like about them?

Trevon Duval:

Maryland, you know, they’re a good school, also. Coach Turgeon lets their guards pretty much do what they need to do to help the team win. He always has the ball in their hands, always has them learning, making mistakes, so I think that’s really good.

Josh Gershon:

What about UConn?

Trevon Duval:

UConn is pretty much the same thing. Their coach lets their guards run the show and help them win games. And he usually plays with two guards, so that’s really good.

Josh Gershon:

Villanova?

Trevon Duval:

Ha, you know, same thing really! Guard-heavy school. Coach Wright teaches his guards great fundamentals. They play good defense and play great offense. So you know, that’s good, too.

Josh Gershon:

Arizona?

Trevon Duval:

Arizona…you know, another West Coast school. Gets up and down. Plays real fast. Their coach also…you know, it’s a guard-heavy school.

Josh Gershon:

And last one, Oregon?

Trevon Duval:

Same thing about Oregon. They’re really a school that gets up and down—plays real fast. And their coach lets their guards run the show.

Josh Gershon:

Any visits you have set up?

Trevon Duval:

No visits right now.

Josh Gershon:

Where do you go from here in the process?

Trevon Duval:

From here?

Josh Gershon:

What’s the next step? Like do you narrow it down?

Trevon Duval:

Oh, yeah, I’m cutting my list down to 10.

Josh Gershon:

And will you take all your visits?

Trevon Duval:

Yeah, I think I’m going to take all five of my visits.

Josh Gershon:

And do you know when you want to decide?

Trevon Duval:

No, not really.
