UCLA Ranked in Preseason Coaches Poll

Aug. 4 -- UCLA cracked the top 25 in the preseason edition of the Amway Coaches Poll that was released Thursday...

UCLA enters the 2016 football season with high expectations, both from within and outside the program.

The Bruins were picked to win the Pac-12 South by the media vote last month and, on Thursday, they checked in at No. 24 in the preseason Amway Coaches Poll.

Five Pac-12 programs were included in the poll, with Stanford, which UCLA plays on Sept. 24, being the highest at No. 7.

USC (No. 17), Washington (No. 18) and Oregon (No. 22) are also on the list, and AlabamaClemsonOklahomaFlorida State and Ohio State make up the top five, in that order.

Six Pac-12 head coaches are among the 64 polled: Clay Helton (USC), Mike Leach (Washington State), Mike MacIntyre (Colorado), Chris Petersen (Washington), Rich Rodriguez (Arizona) and Kyle Whittingham (Utah).

The Amway Coaches Poll is conducted weekly throughout the regular season using a panel of head coaches at FBS schools. The panel is chosen by random draw, conference by conference plus independents, from a pool of coaches who have indicated to the American Football Coaches Association their willingness to participate. Each coach submits a Top 25 with a first-place vote worth 25 points, second place 24, and so on down to one point for 25th.
