Provo (Utah) Timpview safety Chaz Ah You named 12 schools last week that made up his top 12.
The four-star said it's not his final 12, but the 12 who've offered that meet much of his criteria.
Ah You named BYU, Iowa, Cal, Vanderbilt, Utah State, UCLA, Notre Dame, Oregon, Utah, Stanford, Oklahoma State and Washington as his top 12.
"I'm not too sure on when I'll be cutting my list down," said Ah You. "When I pick my five official visits, those will be my top five. But nothing is for sure yet."
While the three in-state schools made his top 12, Ah You has been to each numerous times and said he'll continue to take unofficials to each, but won't take an official visit to any of them.
"I know I'm not going to do any officials in-state, I'll just take unofficials the weekend they do officials," said Ah You. "I plan to take all of my official visits outside of Utah."
While Ah You doesn't have any dates locked in for officials, he knows three schools that are most likely to get one.
"I'm pretty certain that I'm going to take an official to UCLA, Stanford and Notre Dame," said Ah You. "Those three are pretty solid to get to trips. I'm still trying to figure out the last two."
One factor in Ah You's recruitment is his desire to serve an LDS mission right after high school.
"I'm pretty sure I'm going to end up going on it," said Ah You. "It would have to be something pretty significant to keep me from going. My plan is that I'm going to go right after graduation."
Ah You has family at Vanderbilt and BYU, his uncle, C.J., is the defensive line coach at Vanderbilt and his father, Jasen, is the Director of Football Athletic Relations at BYU.
And while both schools made Ah You's top 12, he said neither his uncle or father are pressuring him to follow them.
"They've both been cool about it," said Ah You. "They've been through the recruiting process themselves. They know how much pressure is on me. They know from experience that I need to go to a school that I want to go to, not the school they're pressuring me to go to."
Stanford has been actively recruiting Ah You and he's working on upping his ACT score to increase his chances with admissions.
"Coach (Lance) Anderson is the one recruiting me to Stanford and he's recruiting me the hardest there," said Ah You. "I'm working on my ACT to get that up. If I can get that up, I'll start on my application pretty soon."
UCLA has defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin and quarterbacks coach Marques Tuiasosopo on him.
"Coach Tui and Coach Meat have been recruiting me from UCLA," said Ah You. "Coach Meat offered me after my sophomore year and has been recruiting me since. Coach Tui was recruiting me at USC but has been recruiting me more at UCLA."
At Notre Dame, defensive backs coach Todd Lyght is running point on Ah You's recruitment.
"Coach Lyght is my main recruiter at Notre Dame and he's been recruiting me pretty hard for a while. "They're good with me serving my mission too."
BYU has his dad on staff but he's also known many of the coaches for years.
"At BYU, it's a lot of them recruiting me," said Ah You. "It's really all of the coaching staff. My dad stays out of it. I go over there almost every day and they always say hi when I stop by."
Ah You said he's at 6-1.5, 200 and hopes to be at 205 by the time of the opener.
He's hoping to stay at safety in college but said it has been brought up about moving up in the box.
"I've heard a few things, schools saying that they see me being like Su'a Cravens if I put on a little more weight, where I can come up in the box and play outside linebacker," said Ah You. "I'll play wherever I'm needed."
Ah You and Timpview open their season against Salt Lake City (Utah) West next weekend.
