Patton was invited to the Elite 11 Camp in Orange County, and while out in California, he visited UCLA.
"I took an unofficial on Monday of that week," Patton said. "The campus was awesome. Coach Dorrell was great. He has the aura of a good coach. He reminds me a lot of Tyrone Willingham. I know Coach Schneider, since he is the one recruiting me," said Patton.
While he didn't do as well as he hoped at the camp, Patton still enjoyed the experience. "Being there was great. I have never been to California, so that was real cool. I had heard about all the hype of the camp, and ESPN was there doing a story. Troy Aikman stops by, talks to us. It was cool to see everyone who you read about. I kind of struggled, didn't do as good as I wanted to but it was cool. Matt Tuiasosopo was there, and I know he is real interested in UCLA, and I know they are probably only taking one quarterback."
With a little more pressure to commit, Patton has said it has sped up his own process. "Early on, I wanted to ride it out, but now I have more urgency to make a decision. I am cutting down the list and trying to get it done."
The hometown Tigers are on the rise, and they have definitely caught his eye. "I know some people were saying Coach Pinkel could leave for maybe Washington, but I think they hired a coach fulltime, and so I think Coach Pinkel is staying. I have met with him, and the campus is right by me."
Patton will definitely visit Tennessee and UCLA officially before deciding. He is fully qualified.
