Update: Status of Bruins in the NFL

Aug. 24 -- There have been some developments since our last update on Bruins in the NFL two weeks ago...

http://www.scout.com/player/80859-akeem-ayers

Akeem Ayers (Rams)

Season: 6th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Has had a healthy camp and played significant snaps in the Rams wins against the Cowboy & Chiefs. Will start Week 1.

8/10: Back home in Los Angeles and excited about it. Projected to be starting strong side linebacker

http://www.scout.com/player/120378-anthony-barr

Anthony Barr (Vikings)

Season: 3rd

Notes:

-8/22 Update: Vikings knocked off the Bengals in their firs pre-season game. Barr has battled a few dings in camp but nothing serious. Barr had a sack against the Seachickens in Pre-Season game #2.

8/10: Coming off his first Pro Bowl season, Barr is positioned to emerge as one of the elite linebackers in the league. Side note: If you are ever feeling down, go watch the Barkley hit…it’s glorious

http://www.scout.com/player/153347-caleb-benenoch

Caleb Benenoch (Buccaneers)

Season: Rookie (5th Round)

Notes:

8/22 Update: Off crutches, will still be out for an extended amount of time.

8/10: Probably a 50/50 chance of making the roster at the outset of training camp. A high ankle sprain on 8/1 dimmed those chances further. Still, lots of time left

http://www.scout.com/player/120311-jake-brendel

Jake Brendel (Cowboys)

Season: Rookie (UFA)

Notes:

8/22 Update: Might be on the outside looking in for roster spot. Coach Garrett mentioned in Week 1 that he was very impressed with Jake thus far. Played some guard in the Cowboys’ game with the Rams.

8/10: Will battle for back-up center roster (against another UFA) spot on a very talented Dallas OL

http://www.scout.com/player/109273-malcolm-bunche

Malcolm Bunche (Eagles)

Season: 2nd

Notes:

8/22 update: Released on 8/14. Looking to get invited to another camp.

8/10: Was cut in last pre-season game and subsequently signed on Eagles practice roster. TBD if he makes the 53-man roster this year.

http://www.scout.com/player/151544-kenny-clark

Kenny Clark (Packers)

Season: Rookie (1st Round)

Notes:

8/22 Update: Packers knocked off the Raiders in Pre-Season week #2. Packers also beat the Browns in their pre-season kickoff game. Very likely Week 1 starter alongside Mike Daniels.

8/10: Having a really good camp thus far. Packers are very excited about his future. May start Week 1

http://www.scout.com/player/163618-thomas-duarte

Thomas Duarte (Dolphins)

Season: Rookie (7th Round)

Notes:

8/22 Update: Didn’t have any receptions in the Dolphins loss to the Cowboys.

8/10: In spite of Davey’s post, Duarte did not become African American since he left UCLA. He has, however, put on quite a bit of weight since his departure (reportedly nopw 245 lbs.). We are no “Phinsider” at BRO but, from what we gather, Duarte has a pretty decent shot to make the squad

http://www.scout.com/player/104502-shaquelle-evans

Shaquelle Evans (Jaguars)

Season: 3rd

Notes:

8/22 Update: Returned to practice on 8/17 from a minor leg injury.

8/10: Hasn’t found his footing yet since being drafted in the 4th round by the Jets. On the bubble to make the Jaguars roster

http://www.scout.com/player/155992-ka-imi-fairbairn

Ka'imi Fairbairn (Texans)

Season: Rookie (UDFA)

Notes:

8/22 Update: Missed game #2 of the pre-season with a minor quad injury. Novak is probably out ahead of Fairbairn for starting duty.

8/10: In battle to win starting kicker position/roster spot

http://www.scout.com/player/68782-kai-forbath

Kai Forbath (Saints)

Season: 5th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Kai DERF’d his only attempt in the Saint’s first pre-season game. He did make both of his attempts in the Saints loss to the Texans in Week 2. Looking likely he will keep his job.

8/10: Having a good camp but in a heated competition with Connor Barth to win starting job.

http://www.scout.com/player/134139-devin-fuller

Devin Fuller (Falcons)

Season: Rookie

Notes:

8/22 Update: Caught four balls for 49 yards and a touchdown in their 2nd pre-season game against the Browns. Very likely to make the roster.

8/10: Missed entire off season due to hamstring. The 7th round draft choice has an opportunity with the Falcons recently cutting Devin Hester. Will be watching roster cuts closely here

http://www.scout.com/player/96980-cory-harkey

Cory Harkey (Rams)

Season: 5th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Remains safe to earn a roster spot.

8/10: Undrafted TE has carved out a real nice career for himself. A personal favorite of Rams Coach Jeff Fischer, Harkey will see significant burn and is a lock to earn a roster spot

http://www.scout.com/player/83389-mike-harris

Mike Harris (Vikings)

Season: 5th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Still sidelined with undisclosed illness. No clear timetable for return at this time.

8/10: Out with undisclosed medical condition. Return TBD. Was competing for starting OG prior to being sidelined

http://www.scout.com/player/132439-brett-hundley

Brett Hundley (Packers)

Season: 2nd

Notes:

8/22 Update: Was very sharp in limited action against the Raiders.  Unfortunately, was knocked out of the game with a lingering ankle injury. Hasn’t been healthy for most of camp.

8/10: Packers really like Brett. Ensconced as 2nd string QB to The Bachelorette winner's brother. Had a real strong pre-season last year and followed that up with a great of-season and training camp thus far. Going to be interesting what happens with Hundley as his stock rises and if he plays himself into a trade via him being too good not to be on the field

http://www.scout.com/player/163233-myles-jack

Myles Jack  (Jaguars)

Season: Rookie (2nd Round)

Notes:

8/22 Update: Continued to have a very strong camp. Was dinged for a little bit but only missed a short time. Played 29 snaps against the Jets in pre-season game #1. Coach Bradley on Jack “He really flashed, he played extremely physical and made some flash plays. His demeanor and poise on the field were excellent. His physical nature really jumped out”. Jack did have two personal fouls called on him however (one was called back).

8/10: Like all UCLA rookies, Jack missed all mini camps due to the academic quarter system. Jack has already drawn rave reviews for his athleticism and seems to be working his way up the depth chart. Has been healthy thus far and good chance he starts the first game of the season @OLB

http://www.scout.com/player/97209-datone-jones

Datone Jones  (Packers)

Season: 4th

Notes:

8/22 Update:  Light coming on? Looks like it. Was the best defensive player on the field in Pre-Season Week 1. Followed that game up with a solid outing against the Raiders. His position switch might be one of the big stories of the season for the Packers.

8/10: Huge year for Datone. The Packers passed on their team option. Jones has shed about 25 lbs. and is now playing the Elephant role (think Charles Haley position wise). Has shown flashes however has been a disappointment given where he was selected. Has had a really nice camp and was a late bloomer at UCLA so the hope is that is the same with the Packers

http://www.scout.com/player/131863-eric-kendricks

Eric Kendricks (Vikings)

Season: 2nd

Notes:

8/22 Update: Did not play against the Seahawks in most recent pre-season game. Nursing a hamstring. Expected to be back soon.

8/10: Coming off a great rookie year, Kendricks is poised to emerge as one of the top linebackers in the league. Health permitting, he will be a multi-year pro bowler.

http://www.scout.com/player/10293-marcedes-lewis

Marcedes Lewis (Jaguars)

Season: 11th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Had great camp. Didn’t catch a ball in in the Jag’s 27-21 loss to Tampa Bay however.

8/10: Lewis has had a really nice career. Is currently having “his best camp in years” and will tandem with Julius Thomas to form the best TE duo in the league

http://www.scout.com/player/93306-jeff-locke

Jeff Locke (Vikings)

Season: 4th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Had rough night against Seattle but otherwise has had a good camp. Not a "lock"  to keep his job.

8/10: Slated to start for the Vikings. Has had some inconsistencies but the Vikings like his leg talent. Has been having a nice camp

http://www.scout.com/player/121548-cassius-marsh

Cassius Marsh (Seahawks)

Season: 3rd

Notes:

8/22 Update: In a battle to make the roster.

8/10: Has carved out a nice niche for himself early in his career as a special teamer and situational pass rusher. Recently switched to OLB and is in competition to win the starting job there

http://www.scout.com/player/147136-kevin-mcdermott

Kevin McDermott (Vikings)

Season: 4th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Signed a contract extension with Vikings on 8/9.

8/10: Starting long snapper.

http://www.scout.com/player/91479-rahim-moore

Rahim Moore (Browns)

Season: 6th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Was evaluated but passed a concussion test. Injury was during loss to the Falcons.

8/10: Signed a one-year deal with the Browns. Trying to hold on to starting safety spot

http://www.scout.com/player/115699-owamagbe-odighizuwa

Owamagbe Odighizuwa (Giants)

Season: 2nd

Notes:

8/22 Update: Like Wood’s beard hair, Owa has been tough to contain.  Showing early signs of a breakout year. Had two sacks, three QB hits and three solo tackles against the Dolphins.

8/10: Injuries derailed his rookie season and was only active for four weeks. Giants really like his athleticism and the immediate goal for Owa for this year is to develop into a situational pass rusher

http://www.scout.com/player/55389-logan-paulsen

Logan Paulsen (Redskins)

Season: 7th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Should make the roster. Right on the cusp, currently listed as the 4th string TE.

8/10: Re-signed with the Redskins for another year. Expected to be in the rotation as a TE

http://www.scout.com/player/128953-jordan-payton

Jordan Payton (Browns)

Season: Rookie (5th Round)

Notes:

8/22 Update: Hasn’t been mentioned too much recently. This usually means he is on the edge of making the roster.

8/10: Missed OTA’s but has already made an impression. Likely to make the Browns roster at this point

http://www.scout.com/player/153289-paul-perkins

Paul Perkins (Giants)

Season: Rookie (5th Round)

Notes:

8/22 Update: roster spot should be safe. Had just 5 yards in the three carries in Giant’s loss to the Bills.

8/10: Has had quite a camp already at RB and Special Teams. He is competing for starting RB and lot of folks think he will win it

http://www.scout.com/player/106606-sheldon-price

Sheldon Price (Ravens)

Season: 2nd

Notes:

8/22 Update: Struggled with a few penalties in a win over the Colts.

8/10: Having a solid camp and looks to be in the Raven’s plans. Appears very likely to make the roster and likely to see significant action this season

http://www.scout.com/player/167551-alex-redmond

Alex Redmond (Bengals)

Season: Rookie (UDFA)

Notes:

8/22 Update: Been out the last few days with an undisclosed injury. Not thought to be serious.

8/10: On the outside looking in for roster spot.

http://www.scout.com/player/97993-xavier-su-a-filo

Xavier Su'a-Filo (Texans)

Season: 3rd

Notes:

8/22 Update: Should start Week 1.

8/10: Critical year for Xavier. Has had condition issues throughout his early career. Showed up to camp this year and “nailed the conditioning test” per Coach O’Brien. Listed as the starter at guard this year.

http://www.scout.com/player/22412-matt-slater?s=12

Matt Slater (Patriots)

Season: 9th

Notes:

8/22 update: Excelling at Special Teams again thus far. Will make the roster again.

8/10: Has had a great career as one of the best Special Teamers in the league.

http://www.scout.com/player/69002-alterraun-verner

Alterraun Verner (Buccaneers)

Season: 7th

Notes:

8/22 Update: Has had a good camp and has continued his redemption tour.

8/10: Had disappointing 2015 season. Was benched mid-season. Has already reclaimed his starting position however and is looking for a redemption year

http://www.scout.com/player/140419-aaron-wallace

Aaron Wallace (Titans)

Season: Rookie (7th Round)

Notes:

8/22 Update: Returned to practice on 8/19.

8/10: Suffered High Ankle Sprain. Out at least a few more weeks.

http://www.scout.com/player/128418-jordan-zumwal

Jordan Zumwalt (Steelers)

Season: 3rd

Notes:

8/22 Update: Long odds to make the roster. Has had problems staying healthy and adding weight.

8/10: Hasn’t been able to stay healthy through pro career. In camp with the Steelers and is going to be challenged to make the roster
