Bruins Lose to Melbourne United, 89-84

Aug. 27 -- UCLA's basketball team loses to an Australian professional team, Melbourne United, in the second of three exhibition games in Australia...

With the game not being streamed on the Internet, it's, of course, very difficult to talk anything from UCLA losing to Melbourne United, 89-84.

Some notes:

-- From the box score (below), UCLA started Lonzo Ball, Aaron Holiday, Isaac Hamilton, Ike Onigbogu, and TJ Leaf, and that group started off slowly, being down to Melbourne 10-4.

-- UCLA climbed back on the play of Hamilton, who hit a three at the halftime buzzer to lift UCLA to a 40-37 advantage.

-- Melbourne outscored UCLA 31-20 in the third quarter.

-- Hamilton and Bryce Alford, who didn't start, both led UCLA with 18 points. For Hamilton, 16 of those came in the first half. Alford scored all of his points on three-pointers. Aaron Holiday had 16 and Thomas Welsh 10.

-- Freshman guard Lonzo Ball led the team with 13 rebounds.

-- UCLA's freshmen had a poor shooting game, collectively going 4 for 17 (23.5%).

--  Melbourne United is one of eight professional Australian basketball teams in the National Basketball League, or NBL. UCLA will face another NBL team, the Brisbane Bullets, on Monday evening (Monday morning PST).
