Updated 2017 Top 15 Class Rankings -- So Far

Aug. 31 -- As it normally does, the recruiting process has sped up since the July evaluation periods ended. Top 100 commitments have started to pick up, thus there have been changes to the 2017 class rankings. Auburn still sits at No. 1 with Washington Illinois, UCLA and Louisville round out the current top five...

#1 Auburn Tigers

Bruce Pearl, Auburn sat at No. 1 in the pre-July 2017 class rankings with pledges from five-star burly center Austin Wiley and Scout's No. 37 overall recruit Davion Mitchell. The Tigers have only improved their position since, as they reeled in Chuma Okeke, Scout's No. 41 recruit, before the July evaluations concluded. This is a versatile class that includes impact players at three different position. Auburn's staff isn't finished, though, as they are still heavily recruiting Garrison Brooks, Herb Jones among others.

#2 Washington Huskies

Lorenzo Romar moved quickly on his 2017 recruiting class, as he already holds pledges from four prospects. The crown jewel of the class if top five prospect Michael Porter, who is among the nation's top scorers and perimeter prospects. Porter is the son of new assistant Michael Porter Sr. The Huskies also hold a commitment from No. 83 Jaylen Nowell. A 6-foot-3 guard, Nowell is known for his versatility and ability to score. The class is rounded out by a pair of three-star recruits -- Blake Harris and Mamadou Diarra.

#3 Illinois Fighting Illini

John Groce was in need of a quality 2017 class and he's certainly answered the call, reeling in the highest rated recruit of his five years at the helm of Illinois basketball. Jeremiah Tilmon, Scout's No. 19 player, is an impact recruit and is someone capable of dominating the post in stretches. Illinois also recently picked up their point guard of the future, with the pledge of southpaw scoring lead guard Trent Frazier. Local standouts DaMonte Williams, a combo guard, and Javon Picket, a tall wing, are also early pledges to Illinois.

#4 UCLA Bruins

After a top five class last year, Steve Alford and company currently have the No. 4 overall class in 2017 with three pledges. Highly touted point guard and California native Jaylen Hands is the top rated prospect of their class. Hands had an impressive summer, as he's an good athlete that can both set teammates up and score. Jalen Hill, an active center, is a top 100 prospect and someone that will help the Bruins interior with his rebounding and athleticism.

#5 Louisville Cardinals

Prior to July, Rick Pitino didn't have a commitment in his 2017 class. Now the Cardinals are on the board with a pair of top 100 pledges. Malik Williams, Scout's No. 21 prospect, was the first to commit. A 6-foot-10 versatile power forward, Williams will bring skill and scoring to the table for the Cardinals. Georgia native Darius Perry was the latest to pledge. Perry, a 6-foot-1 combo, is similar to past Louisville guards, as he's tough, aggressive, quick, has defensive potential and can score.

#6 Western Kentucky Hilltoppers

When Rick Stansbury got hired at Western Kentucky there was no doubt he was going to get players. That said, most didn’t expect that he’d be able to land a top 10 player in the nation, which is exactly what he did. Stansbury, who had originally recruited Mitchell Robinson to Texas A&M, was able to reel him in the elite prospect at WKU. Robinson projects as the best player to sign outside of a top rated conference in years.

#7 Xavier Musketeers

Coming in to the 2017 recruiting cycle Xavier had plenty of needs to fill and thus far are off to a great start. Top 50 prospect Naji Marshall is one of the best passers and most versatile prospects in the class, while four-star Elias Harden, who has a reputation as a scorer, and three-star long-range marksmen Jared Ridder give the Musketeers firepower on their perimeter. Xavier currently has a top 10 recruiting class.

#8 Villanova Wildcats

The national champs are looking to use that momentum to sign a great recruiting class and with a pair of recruits ranked among the top 70 in the country, they are well on their way. Villanova's most recent pledge, Jermaine Samuels, who ranks No. 42 overall, is a great athlete who plays hard and brings versatility to the perimeter. Top 75 prospect Dhamir Cosby-Roundtree is a great rebounder and shot blocker with a developing offensive game.

#9 Texas Longhorns

Shaka Smart continues to show his prowess on the recruiting trail, and the Longhorns are building what looks to be a very strong class. On Tuesday, the Longhorns reeled in fast rising center Jericho Sims, who moved into Scout's top 50 following a huge spring and summer. An impressive athlete, Sims is beginning to transition from prospect to player and has intriguing upside. Smart, Texas also hold a pledge from Royce Hamm, a tough and athletic power forward who runs the floor and rebounds well.

#10 North Carolina Tar Heels

Roy Williams and his staff have added some perimeter firepower to this 2017 class. Leading the way is five-star prospect Jalek Felton, the nephew of former Tar Heel standout Raymond Felton. The 6-foot-4 guard is oozing with talent and athleticism, while also having good size and skill, allowing him to play either backcourt spot. Felton is one of the best passers and playmakers in the 2017 class. UNC's second pledge is from Andrew Platek, who is one of the best catch and shoot guys in the class. Platek should prove to be a specialist at UNC.

#11 Wisconsin Badgers

There might have been a coaching change in Madison, but things remain the same on the recruiting trail. Wisconsin has done a great job in-state and in Minnesota locking down top talent. Nathan Reuvers is a versatile power forward who can play inside and out, Brad Davison is a tough combo guard who can really shoot it, and Kobe King is a versatile scorer who plays on the wing. The trio builds a very solid foundation for coach Greg Gard.

#12 Florida Gators

Florida has a pair of commitments in 2017, led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. A point guard with good size at 6-foot-4, Gilgeous-Alexander can really pass the ball, while he's also a talented ball handler and driver who will need to keep improving as a shooter. The Gators also have a commitment from DeAundre Ballard, an aggressive scorer who uses his athleticism to get to the basket but can also hit jumpers.

#13 Arkansas Razorbacks

The key to Arkansas' 2017 recruiting class is no doubt Daniel Gafford. A 6-foot-10 local center, Gafford is one of the best shot blockers and defenders in the class. He's got very long arms and outstanding instincts as a rim protector, while he's also a strong rebounder. Improving offensively will be key for Gafford moving forward. The Razorbacks also have athletic local commitments from shooting guard in Khalil Garland and small forward Darius Hall.

#14 California Golden Bears

Cuonzo Martin and staff have done a nice job thus far in 2017, picking up a couple commitments from versatile guards. Jemarl Baker is a 6-foot-4 shooting guard with long arms who is a big time shooter who can also handle the ball and pass well enough to play some on the ball. Juhwan Harris-Dyson was born to play for Martin due to his size, length, toughness, versatility and defensive ability. The two project as guys who will have a big impact in the Pac-12.

#15 Creighton Bluejays

Creighton has a couple of 2017 commitments with the most notable being Mitchell Ballock, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard from Kansas. Ballock is very much a known commodity who should fit in very well with the Bluejays. Even if he's not going to wow you with his athleticism, Ballock can really shoot the ball and is in constant attack mode. His feel and rebounding ability will also come in handy. Creighton also has a commitment from gifted scorer TyShon Alexander.
