La Mirada (Calif.) cornerback Elijah Hicks (6-0, 183) has his first two official visits locked in.
"I set up for Northwestern when they play Nebraska (September 24) and to Notre Dame when they play Stanford (October 15)," said Hicks. "I have a few other visits that I'll take, and I'll probably take all five visits."
"I don't know yet if I'll take official visits there, but I haven't ruled it out," said Hicks. "I still have to talk that over with my family. And just because I take an official visit to one of the schools, doesn't mean they're in my top five, or if I don't, it doesn't mean they're not."
Hicks does plan to trim his list soon.
"I have a top 10 I think in my mind, at least I'm pretty sure it's about 10 schools, because of course, I'm not looking at all 32 schools," said Hicks. "But I have a few schools in my mind and once I set up my visits, I'm sure I'll have a better idea."
Hicks, though, is pretty certain a few schools that will make the Top 10.
"I'm pretty sure I can say that Northwestern and Notre Dame will make my top ten and UCLA and USC definitely will be," said Hicks.
Hicks camped at USC in June and the Trojans offered not long after the camp.
"Coach (Clay) Helton and Coach (Clancy) Pendergast are the ones mostly recruiting me for USC but every now and then, Coach (Ronnie) Bradford and I hit each other up on Twitter," said Hicks. "I camped at Rising Stars and I've toured the schools a bunch of times so I have a pretty good idea of USC."
UCLA offered him earlier in the spring.
"Coach Meat (Demetrice Martin) and Coach (Jim) Mora are recruiting me," said Hicks. "Coach Mora and I text every now and then, but Coach Meat and I are real close. I didn't camp there but I've visited them a bunch too."
Notre Dame has come on for Hicks and got his second visit.
"I'm really excited to get out there for an official visit and to check the school out," said Hicks. "They've been coming after me a lot more. They play Stanford when I'm out there."
And the Cardinal are the one elusive offer that Hicks is hoping materializes.
"Stanford hopefully will offer me," said Hicks. "That's the one offer I don't have that I'd love to get. And then recently, Nebraska and Coach (Mike) Riley, I've started hearing from."
Colorado has his teammate, Chase Newman, as part of their 2017 recruiting class and Hicks' coach, Mike Moschetti, is a former Buff quarterback.
"Coach Moschetti and Chase talk with me about Colorado," said Hicks. "Coach Moschetti doesn't really push me there at all, he just tells me it's a great place and they're on the rise and he just wants me to make the best decision for me."
Hicks said a few schools are recruiting him harder than the others.
"UCLA, USC, Notre Dame, Colorado and Oregon are the schools I'd say are recruiting me the hardest right now," said Hicks.
Hicks and La Mirada began defense of their state title with a big victory over Orange (Calif.) Lutheran on Friday. The next two weekends will include games against Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco and Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei.
"Our win over OLu was big because it's the first time our school has beaten a Trinity League school," said Hicks. "Hopefully that gets us ready for Bosco and Mater Dei."
