UCLA on Short List for Jalen McKenzie

Sep. 7 -- Concord (Calif.) Clayton Valley offensive lineman Jalen McKenzie missed his junior season after tearing his ACL but was back in action over the weekend when the Ugly Eagles (yes that's the name of the mascot) took on La Mesa (Calif.) Helix in the Honor Bowl...

Despite missing all of his junior season with a knee injury, Jalen McKenzie is still rated a four-star prospect and No. 297 in the Scout 300.

We saw McKenzie in action over the weekend and although he still walked with a bit of limp, he played well. He's a huge kid and looked all of 6-foot-6, 310 pounds. Clayton Valley runs the ball about 95% of the time so we didn't get to see McKenzie pass block much but he looked solid as a run blocker.

He can play high at times and so playing with good pad level and working on his leverage is an area we think he can continue to improve on. He's an aggressive player who can take his man completely out of the play and finishes his blocks.

Coming off the injury, we think it will probably until about mid-season before McKenzie is playing at 100% and knocks all the rust off but the upside is definitely there. He's a tough kid who played hard all game. He went down late in the game with an ankle injury but was able to make it back in to the game later on, which was a very good sign.

On the recruiting front, McKenzie hasn't set up any of his visits yet but said he would like to get out to  Michigan,  Tennessee, UCLA and USC and said those four are talking to him the most right now.
