After lining up exclusively at stand-up defensive end and quarterback his first couple years of high school, Tayler Katoa had the objective this season of showing on film he could play linebacker at the next level.
The four-star athlete has put together a good start to his senior season, displaying good instincts off the edge as a pass rusher and doing well to chase ball carriers on the perimeter. The Layton, Utah, standout would probably still like to show more, particularly in attacking the gaps in run support, but he's certainly got some promise as a linebacker.
On the recruiting front, Katoa has mentioned the likes of Washington, UCLA, USC and Arizona State recently, and he visited in-state Utah last week for the big rivalry game against BYU. Boise State is also considered a contender.
The Bruins drew a visit from Katoa in the spring and then saw him in person at the All Poly Camp early in the summer. Katoa could be considered a potential target after UCLA missed on in-state target Addison Gumbs.
