UCLA Hoops Official Visitors This Weekend

Sep. 22 -- UCLA has two top-20 national hoops prospects coming in for their official visits this weekend, Gary Trent and Kris Wilkes...

It's the first of UCLA basketball's official visit weekends. They'll have at least a couple more weekends where they bring in official visitors, such as next weekend (Sept. 30th) when top-75 post Branden Carlson from Bingham (Utah) and top-100 wing Chuck O'Bannon Jr. from Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman officially visit.

This weekend, though, UCLA has two visitors who are both top-20 national wings in the 2017 class.

Gary Trent is one of the premier scorers in the class. A kid who isn't shy, Trent can shoot it from deep or get to the rim and always brings the intensity. Right now it appears that Duke and Arizona are the two schools with the best shot at landing his commitment, but the Bruins are definitely involved as well. I'd expect Trent to make all, or most, of his official visits. The kid enjoys the visit process and isn't getting overwhelmed, so this seems to be a recruitment that will extend to near signing day in November.

Scout.com's Evan Daniels on Trent:

Gary Trent is one of the best scorers in the 2017 class. Trent has an advanced skill set and scores the ball in a variety of ways and a couple of different levels. He's known for his shooting, and, despite struggling from 3 in EYBL, has the potential to be a very good threat from distance moving forward. Personally, I think Duke is the run-away favorite for Trent. He's going to take some other visits, but the Blue Devils appear to be in great shape with the five-star prospect.

Scout.com's Josh Gershon on Trent:

Gary Trent is one of the most ready for college prospects in the 2017 class. He's a well built kid who can really score the ball, especially with his jumper. He plays hard and has been a relatively consistent scorer over the last couple of years. Trent also plays with a competitive edge and should be a plus defender at the next level. Duke has long been the team to beat for him, although Arizona has made up some ground as well. A big visit is going to be important for UCLA.

Kris Wilkes has long been a target of UCLA, and the Bruin coaching staff has put in a ton of effort here. This week assistant coach Ed Schilling came in to see the long-armed wing, and now Wilkes and his father will make the official visit to Westwood. Indiana is considered the leader right now with Xavier running a close second. Illinois and UCLA also remain in the mix, and UCLA I am told is gaining some ground. I no longer think Connecticut is a factor in this recruitment.
