UCLA defensive back commit Jaylan Shaw continued to shine during his senior season, picking off two passes (Centennial had three on the night), blocked a field goal and forced a fumble to help the Huskies beat Nevada program Liberty from Henderson. 2018 four-star quarterback Tanner McKee was 8-for-10 for 173 yards but was knocked out with a potential concussion in the win.
West Orange (Fla.) vs. Orlando (Fla.) Jones
UCLA quarterback commit Austin Burton had a touchdown run but West Orange lost their fourth straight since a season opening win.
Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei def. Huntington Beach (Calif.) Edison, 42-0
UCLA commit Quentin Lake helped the Monarchs pitch their third shutout of the season, this time against OC foe Edison. UCLA offered 2019 receiver Horace McCoy on Saturday and the night before, the four-star had a catch while 2018 four-star target Amon-Ra St. Brown went over 100 yards and had a touchdown grab. UCLA 2019 quarterback recruit J.T. Daniels threw for 417 yards on 29-of-37 passing with five touchdowns.
Portland (Ore.) Jesuit def. Beaverton (Ore.) Southridge, 48-7
The Crusader ground game, bolstered by UCLA commit Jaxson Kirkland on the offensive line got another big rushing game from 2018 Scout 300 four-star ATH Trey Lowe, who scored six touchdowns in the blowout.
Chaffey (Calif.) College def. Grossmont (Calif.) College, 17-10
UCLA offensive line commit Ronald Rudd and Chaffey surprised previously unbeaten Grossmont, going for over 100 yards on the ground in the win.
Redlands (Calif.) East Valley def. Yucaipa (Calif.), 34-17
UCLA’s five-star defensive end commit, Jaelan Phillips, had 11 tackles, six hurries, four tackles for loss and a sack to help them get to .500.
Roseville (Calif.) def. Fair Oaks (Calif.) Del Campo, 28-24
UCLA tight end commit Jimmy Jaggers played on both sides and helped Roseville improve to 4-0. Jaggers set up the winning touchdown by drawing extra coverage from the Del Campo secondary and leaving his teammate open underneath for the go-ahead score with 1:27 left in the game.
Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman def. Las Vegas (Nev.) Bonanza, 42-0
Gorman stayed unbeaten with their first in-state win of the season. UCLA 2018 quarterback target Dorian Thompson-Robinson did the majority of the work for the Gaels at quarterback, throwing for 127 yards on 11-of-17 passing with a touchdown toss and 48 yards rushing. 2018 five-star linebacker Palaie Gaoteote had a tackle for loss.
Long Beach (Calif.) Poly def. Long Beach (Calif.) Wilson, 32-7
Poly UCLA recruit Cam McDonald had four catches while UCLA 2017 safety recruit Josh Talbott had five tackles and a deflection in their Moore League opener.
Concord (Calif.) De La Salle def. Antioch (Calif.), 28-21
De La Salle held the nation’s No. 1 recruit, Najee Harris to ‘only’ 132 yards, but it was 75 yards under his average and he scored a touchdown. But the Spartans held Antioch off and won by a touchdown.
Calabasas (Calif.) def. Woodland Hills (Calif.) El Camino Real, 42-7
On the day he received his U.S. Army Bowl jersey, UCLA’s top uncommitted defensive recruit Darnay Holmes had a punt return for a score and a one-handed reception for 54 yards. 2018 four-star recruit Bookie Radley-Hiles had an 84-yard touchdown reception and a sack in the win.
