Evaluation Notes: Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian Academy standout Tyreke Johnson is tabbed as an early top 10 recruit in the class of 2018, regardless of position, for some not-so-hard to see reasons. He's got a rock solid frame at 6-foot-2, near 200 pounds to go along with elite athleticism and ball skills. At a recent game Scout attended Johnson excelled at his projected position of defensive back, where he can play physically against bigger wide receivers yet still run and compete with smaller and/or faster ones, but also on special teams and with the football in his possession. He has good vision and instincts in the open field, evident on two scores on this particular night. Johnson took the second-half kickoff to the house and matched the effort on an interception return for 6 before game's end. He also flashed some resilience after giving up some early catches to fellow junior blue-chip Will Mallory, who he basically shut down in the second half, which included the aforementioned pick-six. Johnson checks about every box colleges look for in a top-tier athlete and defensive back whether at his current position of cornerback or perhaps as a safety at some point.
