UCLA Prospect Recap: Week Eight

Oct. 25 -- We look at how UCLA prospects did in week eight of the high school football season...

***Game of the Week:***  Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei def. Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco, 26-21

The Monarchs snapped Bosco’s Trinity League winning streak, handing them their first league loss since before Josh Rosen took over as the starter.  UCLA commit Quentin Lake helped limit the Bosco passing game to just 117 yards passing.  UCLA 2018 safety target Jaiden Woodbey had eight tackles in the loss for the Braves.  2019 four-star quarterback target J.T. Daniels was just 19-for-29 for 129 yards and a touchdown. 2018 four-star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown had a 75-yard punt return for a score.

Calabasas (Calif.) def. Newbury Park (Calif.), 40-14

The game started out competitive but when Calabasas knocked out 2018 four-star quarterback Cameron Rising with a separated shoulder, the Coyotes ran away with it. UCLA five-star cornerback Darnay Holmes returned to action and had a 15-yard touchdown reception. Nebraska quarterback commit Tristan Gebbia threw for 273 yards in the win.

Corona (Calif.) Centennial vs. Corona (Calif.), def. 64-14

Centennial got a handful of tackles from UCLA commit Jaylan Shaw and rolled to a 50-point win. 

UCLA commit Ronald Rudd and Chaffey had just 224 yards in total offense, 114 of them coming on the ground, in the loss.

Portland (Ore.) Jesuit def. Portland (Ore.) Sunset, 40-8

Led by UCLA commit Jaxson Kirkland on the offensive line, Jesuit cruised to a win but it came at a cost, with 2018 four-star running back Trey Lowe cracking a rib, sidelining him indefinitely.  It was the 21st straight win for Jesuit. a

Redlands (Calif.) East Valley def. Rialto (Calif.) Eisenhower, 51-14

After being sidelined a week ago because of pneumonia, UCLA’s five-star defensive end commit Jaelan Phillips returned with another big game, recording seven tackles, two sacks, a fumble recovery and an interception for a touchdown, taking it back 40-yards.

Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon def. Calabasas (Calif.) Viewpoint, 54-10

UCLA commit Kanan Ray and Sierra Canyon returned after a two-week break and rolled over Viewpoint. Sierra Canyon had 582 yards in offense, with 377 coming on the ground and they rushed for five touchdowns and scored three through the air. 

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman def. Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Oasis, 71-0

Scout’s defending national champions, Bishop Gorman, rolled with 2018 four-star quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson catching three passes for 70 yards and two touchdowns at receiver.

Roseville (Calif.) def. Rocklin (Calif.) Whitney, 35-14

UCLA tight end commit Jimmy Jaggers was finally targeted a bunch in the win, scoring an 11-yard touchdown on a one-handed grab and then added the two-point conversion in the victory.

West Orange (Fla.) and UCLA quarterback commit Austin Burton was off for a bye.
