UCLA Prospect Recap: Week Nine

Nov. 1 -- We look at how UCLA prospects did in week nine of the high school football season...

***Game of the Week:***  Portland (Ore.) Jesuit def. Portland (Ore.) Westview, 34-14

UCLA offensive line commit Jaxson Kirkland won the head-to-head matchup with UCLA target Brandon Pili, on both sides of the line and in the box score, helping the Crusaders wrap up the Metro League title with another 200+ yard rushing game.  Kirkland also had a pair of tackles for loss in the win and kept Pili out of the backfield all night.

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei def. Anaheim (Calif.) Servite, 58-16

Mater Dei’s 2019 quarterback J.T. Daniels was 26-for-28 for 327 yards and six touchdowns, and all six touchdowns were caught by players with UCLA offers including 2019 four-star Horace McCoy grabbing two and 2018 four-star Amon-Ra St. Brown catching one but going over 100 yards.  UCLA cornerback commit Quentin Lake had a couple tackles in the win.

Corona (Calif.) Centennial def. Norco (Calif.), 49-17

Centennial got an interception from UCLA commit Jaylan Shaw and 2018 four-star Tanner McKee was 16-for-18 for 311 yards and three touchdowns. Norco 2018 three-star running back Travis Dye, Tony Dye’s younger brother, had 126 yards rushing and 55 receiving yards and a score in the loss.

Mt. San Antonio (Calif.) College def. Chaffey (Calif.) College, 37-0

UCLA commit Ronald Rudd and Chaffey had just 178 yards in offense in a shutout loss to Mt. Sac.

Redlands (Calif.) East Valley def. San Bernardino (Calif.) Cajon, 38-32

UCLA’s five-star defensive end commit Jaelan Phillips and REV held on for a six-point win.  Phillips had another big day, with 15 tackles while adding a sack in the win.

Roseville (Calif.) def. Shingle Springs (Calif.) Ponderosa, 42-14

UCLA tight end commit Jimmy Jaggers had a couple of catches and a sack on defense and helped Roseville move to 8-1 before they take on Oakmont while keeping their Capital Valley League title hopes alive.

Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon def. Los Angeles (Calif.) Brentwood, 63-20

UCLA commit Kanan Ray and Sierra Canyon stayed unbeaten with a blowout win over Brentwood. Sierra Canyon, thanks to several key blocks from Ray, ran for 501 yards and eight touchdowns, attempting only eight passes on the day.

Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman def. Las Vegas (Nev.) Durango, 56-0

2018 UCLA target Dorian Thompson-Robinson ran for a touchdown and 2018 four-star tight end target Brevin Jordan had two catches for 59 yards while four-star safety Bubba Bolden had two tackles, one for loss and a 37-yard interception return for a touchdown in a shutout win.

Calabasas (Calif.) def. Thousand Oaks (Calif.), 47-14

With Jim Mora watching, Calabasas got four catches for 101 yards and a touchdown from UCLA target Darnay Holmes and four more catches for 72 yards from 2020 freshman Johnny Wilson, who also had a pair of touchdowns and landed an offer from the Bruins after the game. Bookie Radley-Hiles, the 2018 four-star corner, also added a touchdown catch.
