Elijah Gates (Brandon Huffman)

UCLA Will Get an Official Visit from a Top DB Target This Weekend

Nov. 14 -- One of the elite defensive backs in SoCal took his official visit to Oregon last weekend, and has his visit to UCLA scheduled this weekend. Who's recruiting him the hardest?

This story was originally published Friday, before Elijah Gates' official visit to Oregon.  We'll ahve an update on his visit to Oregon and a preview of his upcoming UCLA visit soon.

Talented defensive back Elijah Gates is one of the elite corners in the West region. He's a solid four-star prospect and ranked the No. 116 overall recruit in the nation.

Gates has been a dynamic two-way player all season and shown an improved burst and the ability to accelerate in the open field. He's a pure cover corner with a great feel for the position. Gates has good short area quickness, plays physical and is strong in run support.

On the recruiting front, two schools have been at the forefront of Gates recruitment and that remains the case.

"Oregon and UCLA are recruiting me the hardest still," Gates said. "I'm taking my official visit to Oregon this weekend and I'll be at UCLA next weekend.

"I still have TCU set up for (Dec. 10) and my last two trips will probably be to California and Colorado. I haven't set up those dates yet but it will probably be after the season. I don't have a timeframe for a decision but it will likely be after all my trips."

Gates visited the Ducks over the summer and they have been near the top of his list since they first offered in the spring. UCLA is the local school and we know there is some pull for him to stay close to home.

TCU was the first school to offer Gates and he always said they would get an official visit because of that. Cal has a pair of Gates' teammates already committed, Jeremiah Hawkins and Taariq Johnson and Colorado is a school that has quietly stayed in the race and gained ground due to their success on the field this season.
