Prospect of the Week
Arvada (Colo.) Pomona offensive lineman Jake Moretti had been committed to Ohio State for almost a year and a half. He took his official visit to Columbus earlier this month and seemed like a lock for the Buckeyes. But on Thursday, he flipped his commitment to in-state Colorado. It was a huge pickup for the Buffs, giving them the No. 1 prospect in the state in the 2017 class and further strengthening what is one of their best classes in recent memory. Moretti has missed the season with an ACL injury he suffered at Ohio State's camp but was set to go to The Opening Finals prior to the injury. He was one of the most heavily recruited linemen from the state in years and is the crown jewel in Mike MacIntyre's in-state recruiting efforts.
Visit of the Week
The headliner out West has to be Fontana (Calif.) Summit running back Stephen Carr taking an official visit to UCLA. Carr is currently a USC commit and you don't often see players take a visit to a school when they're playing the school they're committed to. Carr is also looking at Miami, Michigan and Notre Dame as potential visits down the road but his commitment to USC does appear strong.
Prospect On the Rise
Layton (Utah) four-star athlete Tayler Katoa is one of the most versatile prospects in the West and that ability to play on both sides of the ball was highlighted this season and a big reason why his recruitment has heated up even more this fall. Katoa visited Washington last weekend for an official visit and when he got home from the trip, USC offered him as a linebacker. He's set to visit Boise State this weekend and Utah in early December and will now schedule a visit to USC before he makes his decision in December prior to a January enrollment.
Underclassmen of the Week
West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade 2018 running back T.J. Pledger is the top back in the West in the 2018 class and his first round performance in the CIF-SS playoffs against Long Beach (Calif.) Poly knocked the Jackrabbits out of the playoffs. The four-star, ranked No. 3 nationally at running back and No. 19 overall, ran for 132 yards and five touchdowns in a 50-14 romp of Poly. Pledger has offers from coast-to-coast including from eight Pac-12 schools and national programs like Georgia, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Oklahoma.
Tacoma (Wash.) Lincoln offensive lineman Quazzel White will announce his decision on Friday afternoon and the three-star has narrowed it down to Boise State, Washington State and San Diego State. The Cougs have the advantage of being the in-state program and a Pac-12 program, two things that have been key to White in his recruitment. White will announce before Lincoln's quarterfinal playoff game with Seattle (Wash.) O'Dea.
