4-star CB Gates Talks UCLA Official Visit

Nov. 23 -- Buena Park (Calif.) four-star cornerback Elijah Gates talked about his official visit to UCLA...

Buena Park (Calif.) cornerback Elijah Gates took his second official visit over the weekend, checking out UCLA.

The trip to UCLA followed his visit the previous weekend to Oregon.

Gates had been to UCLA during the spring for an unofficial visit with his mother, but the official had the whole family in tow.

"The visit was good," said Gates.  "My dad was able to accompany me and my mom and it was important for my dad to be a part of it."

Gates was hosted by Octavius Spencer but also spent time with the other players.

"My host was Octavius Spencer but I also hung out a lot with Brandon Burton and a couple more players," said Gates.

The depth chart in the secondary could be light moving forward for UCLA, something that Gates said was reiterated to him.

"They do have a lot of players leaving so that is something that I am considering," said Gates.

Despite the Bruins' loss to USC, Gates said the atmosphere inside the Rose Bowl caught his eye.

"The Rose Bowl atmosphere, I love it," said Gates.  "Just the fans, how they came out supporting the team in the start and how they stayed in the game for the whole four quarters."

Gates also got to spend a lot of time with the Bruin coaches.

"I spent some time with Coach (Jim) Mora and Coach (Tom) Bradley and Coach Meat (Demetrice Martin)," said Gates.

Gates is still planning to visit California and Colorado officially, though those dates haven't been set.

Buena Park completed their season with a 10-2 record and Gates finished with four touchdowns and three interceptions.
