Santa Margarita (Calif.) 2018 athlete Malone Mataele (6-0, 170) has seven offers as his recruiting cycle gets close to kicking in.
The four-star landed his most recent offer from UCLA just before Christmas.
"The UCLA offer was a big offer and definitely one I was looking forward to," said Mataele. "They offered me as an athlete. Coach Demetrice Martin offered. He broke it down that they liked me as a DB and as a receiver and for special teams, so they offered as an athlete.
The Bruins joined six other schools that had already offered him.
And Mataele thinks a few more schools could be joining the fray.
Mataele's teammate at Santa Margarita, Brett Neilon, is already committed to the Trojans in the 2017 class.
"I've heard a little bit more from them," said Mataele. "And I think I'll see more of them this spring."
Mataele has a few other schools he's planning to see in the spring.
"I'm planning on seeing Virginia, Stanford, Utah, UCLA and Colorado too and maybe a couple more," said Mataele.
Mataele said his preference is on offense, but he's open to either side.
"To be honest, I like both, but I'm just more natural as a running back," said Mataele. "Pretty much all the schools like me as an athlete. It makes me more versatile. So I'll wait and see which one is best for me in college."
